I have been a collector for many years. Mostly football cards but also have some hockey and baseball from when I was a kid. I was a big comic collector as a kid/teen and understood care and priceing for comics, but not so much cards.
I am currently starting to calatog my cards here and on paper, I plan to sell them in small sets and individuals over time once the catalog is completed. I have a few questions before I get started.
- Where is the best place to sell ? I have an ebay account and use paypal but am willing to consider other safe options.
- Is it ok to scan a card in a protective sleeve or should I take it out?
- What is the best way to package for shipping?
- What the best way to grade my cards so the buyer will know exactly what he is getting?**
**I have a few cards that look nm even up close but on the top of the card (like if you looked at it top down between the front and back) there is some discolouration ( I was thinking of trying to take a pic of it on those cards when I post it.
Thanks for reading.

If you are scanning, please take it out of the sleeve. That way, the card won't have to be cropped at a later date. For selling, I have only used Ebay. I am sure there are many other sites available. I am hoping to hear from the people that use them.

I sell on ebay (id: vrooomed) and sportlots (id: vr000med), but found sportlots to be a trickle of sales (granted I don't have a lot listed) and auctions seem to take forever to end.
I buy on ebay, comc, sportlots, & beckett mp. Also a couple of sites run and supplied by individuals (which obviously wouldn't help you sell).
You can also find some people on here who are willing to take certain teams, players, and maybe even sports, and certain non-sports.

regarding your question about shipping
I always ship cards in a nice toploader inside a team bag, inside a bubble mailer.
I never close the toploader with scotch tape, thats what the team bag is for, to keep the card in the toploader and to keep the toploader tape free. Scotch tape is a peeve post for another day lol.
When there is room (weight) available in a package I normally grab a handfull of base cards(8 to 10) and toss them in a wide penny sleeve and put them on each side of the toploader as padding. Many collectors message me thanking for the extra base (usually they give to their kids), but a happy customer is one that returns and leaves good feedback.

Being a buyer more
than a seller I
highly second
Subterfuge's
practice of NOT
applying scotch
tape to a
toploader. A pet
peeve of mine as
well, it leaves
residue on the
loader and, as
mentioned, a team
bag fixes that
issue nicely. Also
someone once used
masking tape, which
I personally didn't
mind as it didn't
leave any residue.
Glad to see I'm not
the only one who
notices things like
that.
Getting extra base
cards can never
hurt. Even if the
cards themselves
mean nothing to me
(don't collect the
player, etc) I
still recognize the
thought that went
into adding
something extra.
Those are the
sellers that I am
more inclined to
purchase from in
the future. Subterfuge wrote: regarding your question about shipping

Thank you, more good advice. Ill make sure to pick up enough supplies when I 'm ready to sell.
When selling in bulk (50+) cards. Should I scan every card or just a few? I do plan to include a complete list of the cards included but not sure how to manage images in a large quantity.

RE: 50-Card Lots
I would scan the best 9 (one page worth) for the main photo and do the rest in 9-card scans (obviously, if it's a 50-card lot, there will be a page of only 5 at the end, or you could do 54-card lots). Trying to get a photo or scan of all of them is next to impossible, and makes it impossible for a potential buyer to tell what's in the lot. You get up to 12 photos for free on ebay. Use them. I wouldn't scan each card individually.
For example, here is one of my listings that is a 43-card lot of Jason Arnott:
I actually scanned them in chronological order - with the thought that the older cards are probably the more desirable cards.
Glad we're able to help you out. Let us know when you start listing stuff so we can browse and maybe buy!
