Is .png ok for scans?

I just noticed that several of my most recent scans that I uploaded were in .png instead of .jpg. Is it fine to leave them as is or do they need to be replaced with .jpg? I switched over to different scanning software and forgot to change the output file default settings.

According to the site guidelines they should be in .jpg format. PNG was designed for transferring images on the Internet, not for quality graphics. Think of .png is a single photo and .jpg is thousands of pixel-sized photos. I always wondered what the heck .png was. Great explanation, at least to me.
