I searched through forums so apologies if I a discussion on this already. What is the correct practice for handling Team Names that are on the card as player names? For example on this list of World Cup Team Photos
http://www.tradingcarddb.com/Subsets.cfm/sid/94770/2014-Panini-FIFA-World-Cup-Brazil-Prizm---Team-Photos
Some of the teams under Player Name (eg, Argentina) are linked to an 'Argentina' player created under non-sport. Many others aren't linked to anything. For the new 2018 World Cup set that is coming out, do team names that are listed as player names on certain cards get linked to these accounts, or do we create a player account for a country if it doesn't have one, or Verify them without linking them to anything (again, only when they are listed as Player Name on the card, I know how to handle Team Names listed as the actual Team)?

Teams do not get PIDs.
If the players are easily identifiable on the front, they may be linked using the player links feature under the images.
Team photos depicting the whole team should not be given the links. There are some in the database that this has happened with, but they are incomplete. I don't always agree with "incomplete is better than nothing", but that's not my call.
Argentina in Non-Sport is for the country (for flags, etc.). No soccer teams should be linked to that PID.
In the case where a card would have no player linkage, but seems to get auto-PIDded with the wrong PID (and shpouldn't have one at all), you can remove the PID that keeps showing up, and enter a zero (0) in the PID field. That will block the auto-populating process and keep the erroneous PID from showing up ever again.

Ok Dan, so what then do I do for an insert list for 2018 WC that lists past World Cup champs as countries? Does Argentina as a Player Name in that case link to the non-sport? Or is that still considered the team that won it, and not the country?
In other cases as you mentioned I can verify the player names with no PID or link to anything.

Holy crap on a cracker! This is a can of worms!
First, I'll fix this set. The team association should NOT be done in the player name field. I'm changing the PID to "0".
Second, I'll make sure that the correct TID is listed in the Team Field.
Third....and here's the can of worms....validating that the cards associated with the TID are soccer cards. I just did Australia and there were over 30 non-soccer cards associated with the Australian National Soccer Team. Mostly Olympic Team members, but some Rugby and Cricket as well.
Two remaining issues..currently the Australian Women's National Team has the same TID as the Australian Men's National Team. I'm assuming this is the same for all National Teams. I don't think this is a terrible thing, but are we ok with mixing the different National Teams under one TID?
Second...the Misc-Sport category only has one TID for Australia. This means that the Olympic Team, National Rugby Team, and National Cricket Team all share the same TID. Again, maybe this is ok?

FWIW all national soccer teams get lumped under one team. We don’t distinguish between Brazil Men’s and Women’s teams, for example. I don’t think it’s an issue and I can’t imagine what a nightmare it would be to go back and separate every national team into men’s and women’s teams.

Country names in this case are the names of Teams, and do not get PIDs. Nor should sports team names be getting associated with PIDs in Non-Sports. That makes no sense.
And just for the record, if you use PID = 0, any links made previously are removed. The zero also prevents PID linkage when you want to link multiples per card.

Dan...are you saying not to use "0" for a team photo PID? I thought we have decided that we will not link players to team photo cards.

I'm saying that if you want to link players to a card, using PID = zero will block that. Essentially, PID = 0 means no one (or nothing) will ever get linked to that card.
I'm also saying that if there's a "Team" card that shows 2 or 3 players, who are easily identifiable, go ahead and link them. For a team card like this - don't.

With a little work (alright...a lot of work) the 11 men depicted on each of the team cards could be figured out. So if someone wanted too, they could link the 11 players pictured to the card. I'll remove the "0" from the PID.

Australia has two TIDs in Misc Sport, so far. A Rugby TID (4264) and a Olympics TID (1170). They're not meant to be shared. If there are Cricket cards that need an Australia TID, we'll create the TID.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.
