I notice that the Kenner Starting Lineup checcklists in the database only include the ones issued with a card along with a figurine. Should this be held as the line? I know if the figures that do not have a card were also listed, some would say that it opens the database up to a lot of other memorabilia (e.g. Post bobbing heads). But as a collector, I look at all Starting Lineup as something in my collection right alongside the cards. If they were all in the database, then my "Have List" would be more inclusive of all of my collecction. Just a thought and wondering what other collectors think. By the way, it is rare no to have the card and the figure; I think I only have two Puckett cards that are not in the package with the figure.

Fact: I own a few Starting Lineup figures. And I like them.
Fact: I own a couple McFarlane figures. And I like them.
Opinion: This is the Trading CARD database. Not the sports/non-sports collectible database. Let's keep it that way. We still don't have the CARD part of the database close to complete--heck, I found a Steve Carlton item the other day with the team as the Pittsburgh Pirates! Fixed that, but still, we're not even close, let's stay focused on that. And I've been using this site primarily for baseball, but I've looked at some of the hockey stuff, and it's in worse shape than baseball. I'm pretty sure basketball and football will be that way as well. Maybe once we get the card portion right, then we can expand. Again, please understand, this is only MY opinion. I do agree, however, that there should be a place (somewhere on the web) that checklists SLUs and McFarlanes.

The checklists for the SL figures is very hard to get right. Beckett and every other site I've ever looked at-only catalogs the figures. The cards, at least in the NBA- are numbered. Sometimes. I have quite a few of them, but I never completed any year. And I got some figures loose without cards as well.
If I had the knowledge, I've long wanted to start an Action Figure database. I'm slowly working on photo documenting my collection (I was a very active figure collector, only stopping in 2007) but I only have knowledge of what I have, and at that some of them are so far removed from my memory, from when I was a little kid, that I only know what line they are from in some cases.
Although far from complete, you can see what I've photographed so far on my website, here:

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. I have to agree that this for trading cards and their inserts only. You are buying figures for the figures, not the cards. And again, this is the TCDB. Just my opinion.

I agree, which is why I find the publication checklists needless. This is either for trading cards (as the site name suggests) or it's for all things sports, which it isn't. I'm sure people like that section, and that's ok (I'm not knocking it), but I just don't think it's necessary here. Just my 2 cents... vrooomed wrote: Fact: I own a few Starting Lineup figures. I have noticed a
few things n the
site that made me
think twice about
what should be
included as well. I
have seen sets of
pins, magnets,
among other non
trading card items.

If SLU's start getting listed here, then people will also be looking for Die-cast vehicles w/cards to be listed. That isn't specific to Racing either. There are tons of die-casts made with team logos for every sport. Then there's Winner's Circle die-casts with an SLU figure. It can go on and on. I agree that these should not be in the database.
As for bplay24's comment, those are items that were pulled from packs/boxes of CARDS. If they are pulled from card products, they should be listed. Just my opinion, but I think many will agree with that.

Those magnets, pins, posters, coins, etc. were not necessarily pulled from packs of cards. The only reason any of the Starting Lineup or Transogram sets are listed is because they came with cards, as it was the card set that was being listed. Those products just happened to come with figures. Topps Coins, the Fun Foods pins, the series of MLB pins/buttons and the 1989, 1990 & 1994 magnets were all their own products sold in packs, without cards. The big catalogs never stopped at cards, and just look at all the sets of collector cups they include from 7-Eleven.
But the question is valid as to where the line is drawn. If we start including SLU and MacFarlane figures WITHOUT cards, then do we also start including Hartland statues? Bobbleheads? Collector plates? Busts? spazmatastic wrote: If SLU's start getting listed here, then people will also be looking for Die-cast vehicles w/cards to be listed. That isn't specific to Racing either. All interesting and worth the discussion. As said above, there are already lists in the database that are not cards. As well, where is the line drawn for size of cards. There are picture packs that are in the database and others that are not. (I don't remember seeing the 8x11 Studio pictures from the mid-90s.) I have tried to enter the 1977 Pepsi gloves that have a disc like a baseball in the palm of the glove. Other discs of the same size are in the database but I have not succeeded in getting this one in.
Maybe if, and I emphasize IF, we allow oddball stuff such as bobbleheads and the sort, maybe we need a pure oddball category that is then broken down into the same sports and no-sports categories as the cards have. Then only those who wish to collect and contribute to this area would be bothered. It would also be a place to move all of the oddball stuff that already exists. But this can be something we look at in the future. Right now, there are a lot of errors and missing information in many sets. I continue to plod along associating teams to every card I have, many missing in even the major releases.
Thanks for everyone's feedback. I am sure this discussion could go on for a while.
