(EDIT: I realize this should probably have been titled "Adding new teams to site.")
Apologies if I've missed this anywhere. I'm a relatively new contributor, adding cards to the Laughlin 1980 Famous Feats set and the 1994 Origins of Baseball set. (Historical cards are of more interest to me than new issues.) I've enjoyed pulling the images from eBay and editing them with Gimp to post onto the site.
Anyway, though I've been able to assign some of the previously unassigned or alternatively named players in the Origins set to their proper names, like tying Robert Carruthers to Bob Caruthers, I haven't been able to find a way to add a team. The Origins set features a card for the Baltimore Orioles of the National League from 1892-99. Obviously they are not the same franchise as the modern-day Orioles, though many cards from the 1890s era are listed with the modern Orioles. Is there a way for me to add a Baltimore Orioles 1890s or Baltimore Orioles NL listing to the site so I can move those 1890s players to their proper home? Many thanks.

I've raised this issue with Admin before and haven't seen any change. Couple more examples; Dallas Texans, one was an NFL team in 1952 and the other was an AFL team from 1960-62 before becoming the Kansas City Chiefs. NHL's Ottawa Senators, the original team (1883-1935) and the current team (1992-present) have absolutely no connection to each other.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I think it's more about having the correct team name, not franchise. Otherwise, current Winnipeg Jets cards could be listed with Atlanta Thrashers cards and it would be confusing. If you're going to get into the year range of franchises, especially in the dead-ball era baseball, you're going to over-saturate the team field with team that were around 1 or 2 years.

Yes, it's about correct team names. But when separate and unrelated teams share the same name they need to have their own separate entries in the database. Much like players who have the same name. So, when collectors search the database for Dallas Texans of the AFL they don't want to have Dallas Texans of the NFL in the search results, leading to confusion.

Just look at Anahiem for example ..... how many different names have those teams had .... =) , and they are still directly linked. But seriously though, I agree with the adding a year range (or something of the type) for teams that are seperate entities, the original Senators have absolutely nothing to do with the new era, they should be kept seperate.

Yes, but Anaheim was also the same franchise - we're talking different franchises here. I disagree though...if you were looking for Texans AFL or NFL, it's under football. This database doesn't distinguish between leagues, only sports. I think people are too much into the minutia of this site. Sport/team/name....then there's other details like card number, serial numbering, condition, MEM/AU, etc. I'm not interested in Baltimore Orioles - American League, National League, American Assoctiation, Federal League, Negro League, etc...that's just me though.

Actually, the database does distinguish by league; click on Browse...Football...Teams and you'll see the different leagues.
Ranfordfan, when I was working on a pre-1935 hockey checklist, it was the Original Ottawa Senators team that I had asked Admin to create a separate Team ID for because they are a totally separate and unrelated team from the current Ottawa Senators.

The old Ottawa Senators may be a separate historical franchise but the new team celebrates their history - they have retired Frank Finnegan's old number, and display the old Senators' Stanley Cup banners. I don't collect hockey anymore so it doesn't affect me at all but I just thought I would put that out there.

If they have the same exact name and the latter celebrates them as part of their history, then I think they should be listed together. I mean would you have two separate entries for Cleveland Browns, 1970-1995 and 1999 to present? Same concept.
