Hi all, I'm new here. Started going through my card collection recently and was extremely pleased to find this site with so many of my random card sets already listed, as well as a way to keep track of my own collection! There's been a number of general site-related things I've been surprised to not find info about in my perusal (including basic forum searches), so I figured I'd ask here. Apologies if I just totally missed something

Title question: What is the scope of this site? So, for example... I see card games such as Magic and Pokemon are included here, which totally makes sense. At the same time, I don't see card games such as Taboo or Apples to Apples on here, which also makes sense at first thought. However even these latter games have things like expansions, so there is technically something to collect about it, and there are many card sets unambiguously included on here that you can buy a complete set of, so that's not really a distinction either. So is there any sort of defined line between the two?
As for a specific questionable example: I've got a few different sets of dinosaur cards (not the show, I mean just with dinosaur information on them). One is already included on here... another that isn't is not numbered and slightly larger, but otherwise is similar to the included set... a third set is numbered, and with similar info, but is advertised as "flash cards", and a little larger again. Where does the line get drawn?

Other noob Q's:
Are there guidelines listed somewhere? For example, I perused a topic where somebody mentioned non-numbered cards need NNO, and are not to be arbitrarily given numbers. But where do I find that rule? My best guess is that I find that info out as I get more permissions... is that true? Even if so, is there a place to go as a reference for these things?

Thanks! Yeah, I've see the FAQs and all those links, but they don't answer these questions. And I figured the forum would be a good place to ask, since these are general enough to be applicable to many people. Are you saying I should instead ask in the contact us section?

For your first question, there really isn't a definitive answer. There is no definitive answer of what defines a trading card, but if they call themselves flash cards I would personally not include them. But...if they were made by a traditional card company, and are numbered, then I might.

Card size varies. Standard size wasn't determined until the 1950s, roughly 90 years after trading cards as a concept came into being. Even then other sizes were experimented with, or became a common practice (Like in the Allen and Ginter sets). So what I'm getting at is that different sizes do not preclude inclusion in the Database.

For the Checklist question, those answers appear on the Checklist submission/FAQ page. When you go to input a checklist there is an FAQ specifically for checklists.

Aren't Taboo and Apples to Apples board games, and the cards you speak of just the cards with questions? If so, I think that completely falls out of the scope of this site. I don't consider those to be trading cards. Stuff like Pokemon makes some sense because at least it has pictures/artwork of the various characters on it, and from what I see at Walmart, they are bought in packs and collected. I think the cards you speak of would fall under board game collecting, not trading cards. Unless I am wrong about what these games are.

Yeah, I'm not planning on adding them in, but it is kinda an interesting hypothetical discussion, because it's really a range from definitely trading cards to definitely not trading cards. Apples to Apples doesn't actually have a board (it is purely cards and a card-holder) (and really, neither does Taboo), but it is indeed most commonly a buy-it-and-use-it-as-a-set thing. But then games like Pokemon have buy-it-and-use-it-as-a-set starter decks too... and sometimes even a board! (well, a mat to put your cards on anyway :P )
