Hey has there been a change on the points awarded by chance? I remember quite awhile back I took a huge leap in the points. (Actually was way back in July) I am pretty sure I do alot more on here in the winter but I'm nto sure that my points increase as much as they used to. Of course this could just be my old guy brain playing tricks on me as I am up to 1950 from 1200 in July but no big jumps that I know of. Anybody notice anything? Not of huge importance just been parenting and passing time before the KFC gets here, yup my night to cook. LOL

This might be a stupid question, but what are the points for? I mean, I know you get them for doing stuff, but then what?

For most of us on here, nothing of any huge value really other than maybe loyalty. I like to think of them like this for the most part. The higher the total the more knowledgable the member. They must not only know the site well but the hobby as well if their point total is that high. Plus doesnt it just feel good to see the number keep getting bigger! LOL

Did you go with Original or Extra Crispy?

Peace and cards, David Building up baseball sets slowly but, well, slowly. Residence in New England has no bearing on my favorite teams, players, or how I pronounce "card." Forgave my dad for putting his '52 Mantle in his bike spokes, but not my brother for plastering his room with my Star Wars stickers.

Based on some of the checklists and scans I've seen, big point totals don't necessarily equate to hobby knowledge! But Ranfordfan is right. It does show that these users have devoted a lot of time to the site and adding information.
To answer the original question; I have no idea. (some answer, eh?!?!) I haven't done much the last couple months that would increase my score so I wouldn't be able to tell. I've focused most of my time on the site to getting my collection re-entered since I started over in December. I'll get back to being useful eventually!

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I can't give you an exact answer either. I have noticed that when the "monthly bonus points" get added, my # doesn't jump drastically anymore. It jumped several hundred points last July and several hundred more in December. It jumped about 100 points on Tuesday but I have done a TON of work on checklists (info, card #'ers, glossaries, etc.) in February. I'm wondering if it was a six-month jump before and now it's a per-month bonus. I don't know though.
For those wondering about the reasons for gaining points, it's really just bragging rights. Quite a few of the members with more points than me didn't truly know what they were doing (or did it before the options we have now were available). I have had to make many fixes and replacements to stuff submitted by members with more points than me. For the most part though, you will know that these members have done a lot of significant work on the site. You can always check a members' profile page to see what they added to get them to that point number. On a Profile Page, click the "Items Added" link to see a breakdown of what they've contributed to the site. That page shows a pie-chart and a list breaking down the types of items added, and another one that breaks it down by sport. The majority of my points came from adding scans of cards, plus 60+ checklists. I have mostly dealt with NASCAR cards so far, but worked on quite a few NFL sets and some MLB stuff too. My reasoning is that the NASCAR section was the one that needed the most help here.

Well to answer the important stuff first ......... Original ........ not even sure we get the extra crispy choice up here in Canada LOL Its always the same "Family meal please, medium fries, maccaroni and potato, no I dont need a bottle of pepsi"
Now to the other stuff, I'm with Spaz almost word for word, I have been doing a ton on here but the only thing different is that my scan totals would be down. The closer I get to 15-16 on my Ranford PC the fewer cards I have (strike the soul of the person who came up with the idea of SNs and memrobelia and high end fancy schmancy cards ..... oh yeah and ITG!!) This could be part of the reason I guess, but yeah they just seem a little harder to get than in the past. Guess I have to work harder. =)

You get Pepsi products up there???
I am from the home of Pepsi (NC, USA) and I was a bit surprised by how very rare it was to find PepsiCo. products all along the Great Lakes. I went to Chicago, IL and drove east along the Great Lakes in the US until I got to Niagara Falls. I spent time on both sides of the border in Niagara. Almost every store and restuarant along my path only had Coca-Cola products. I was a bit bummed b/c I am a Mountain Dew fan. Occasionally I was rewarded with a place that had Dr. Pepper as a Coca-Cola product. Dr. Pepper (and 7UP) is not affiliated with either company, but is distributed by both of those depending on the area or the company purchasing products from either distributor. I couldn't even find a vending machine in most places that had PepsiCo. products. What really bugged me about that is the fact that NC's main Pepsi plant is several hundred miles north of Coca-Cola's main plant in Georgia.

The answer is in the FAQ section under General Info.
How do you earn points?
You can earn points by submitting items to the database (images, checklists, videos, trivia, external links, prices, fixes, etc). Points for submitting fixes and prices are awarded at the end of the month.

Ok I'll go with the DB stuff first this time, thanks for the info on the points gb24 but have known that for quite awhile, it just seemed that the big month end bonus points are not as "big" as they once were but again I am open to blaming it on my over-stressed under worked brain. =)
Pepsi is not that uncommon up here spaz, you must just have had really bad luck with your stops. It is everywhere up here honestly. I do know that both companies have exclusives with certain other companies. Like some places only sell coke stuff and vice versa, but all in all every cornerstore, shopping market have both and to the nines. Heck my Wal-Mart has them sitting side by side on their pallets in the pop aisle. Here's another tidbit, one of my best buds works for Coke in the distributing side, he signed a form when he started that he can not purchase pepsi products while in uniform or on the clock but he can not even eat where pepsi is served either ..... Crazy!!
