Hi all,
I love this site! I've been feeding my nostalgia by poking around a number of sets of the 70s. So much fun! I have a few suggestions that would I would like to make.
1) Have HOF (for Hall Of Fame) be a tag that can be added to a card (like AS, AP, RC, etc.)
2) Have all of the cards with a given tag in a ser be viewable in checklist/gallery form. Right now we can do this with RC (and with my proposed HOF), but it'd be really nice to be able to view all of the AS cards from a given year, for example.
Question: How does one go about actually adding tags to a card? I'd like to go through the 70s Topps basketball sets and add AS designations where appropriate, but I have no idea how to do this.
Best,
Dave Blackston

Notes (not tags) are for card attributes. HOF is a player attribute not a card attribute. Unless it is an actual Hall of Fame card. There are some sets that have Hall of Fame subsets. There already is a link for Hall of Famers in each set (found between Errors/Variations and Rookies).

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I'm aware that the Hall of Famers links exist -- I referred to them in my original post. I am asking for a more general view where we can display all of the cards in a given set with a given note in the same way that we can currently display those cards with the 'RC' note. I may be unique in this, but I really like to look at all of the All Stars or All Star Rookies in a given set. I imagine this would not be too hard to code because the template for 'RC' already exists.
As far as HOF notes being player specific or 'Hall of Fame Subset' specific, there's no reason that the note cannot be applied to cards as well as players. There are plenty of notes which have different meanings depending on different contexts. An HOF tag could also be useful for a set like

where it might be useful to distinguish between the HOFers and the non-HOFers with a glance at the checklist.

Sounds like you have been enjoying the site, it is a great place to be, I understand what you are talking about more or less but the DB here is one that strives for card / set accuracy. I do believe you are asking for HOF to be added to cards of players that are hall fo famers. Since most of those cards do not denote it as a HOF card we can not add the HOF tag as you refer to it. Notes such as AS, L, LL, etc. all those literally show what that note means on the card itself and that is the Note feilds sole purpose as per site guidelines administartion has set up. Admin is always open to suggesttions so by all means take the time to pass along your suggestions to them, this place is always evolving. There are lots of people with lots of ideas, and trust me there are plenty of voices to be heard. =)

By that logic, RC shouldn't be used as a note either because most RCs (at least from the eras I am interested in) are not designated as such on the cards themselves. I concede though that 'RC' indicates a card specific property rather than a player specific property and it is therefore reasonable to handle it differently.
How does one pass along suggestions to the admins? I do think the checklist/gallery view of cards with a given note would be a good addition to the site. Also, I still would like to know how to add notes to a card. I would like to update many of the 70s Topps basketball cards to add AS notes where appropriate. They were some of my favorite sets as a kid and I'd like to see them polished up.

I just have to chime in now! Have you read ANY of the site FAQ's? It just seems to me that you don't know how things are done here vs. what other sites do. You should certainly visit the FAQ section of the site as well as the Permissions section. FAQ is in the drop-down menu labeled "Quick Links". "Permissions" can be found in the link-list at the bottom of the page on the left side. Both of these will help answer your questions faster than the forum.

Those are links to the FAQ and Permissions pages. If, after reading those, you still have questions, you can send private message to user "Admin". They are very helpful and are good at explaining things.
As for your desire to update the 1970s basketball cards with the AS designation - the only thing I'll add to this is please only do this if the card itself actually names the player as an All-Star. (I know several of the 1970s baseball sets had special notations on the fronts for the players who were the All-Star starters. Only those cards, or the special subset cards, would get AS in the Note field.) Have fun!

Thanks for the gentle reminder that the FAQ exists. I'm sorry - I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes. Topps 1973-74 Julius Erving is now an AS with more to come. :)
I didn't see anything on the FAQ about feature requests, but I may have missed it. I'll check again more carefully later.
Thanks again!
Edit: And thanks to you, Dan for info on how to make a feature request to the admins.

What also is a friendly thing to do - work on a complete set - as in, finish tagging all the 73-74 NBA as AS, appropriately, of course. :)
