I know I've been mentioning this is probably 3 out of 10 threads, so I wanted to give it it's own thread. First, I am a complete geek, and realize that. Now, back in December, I decided I wanted to keep track of the progress being made on reducing the number of sets missing abbreviation definitions. Of course, I'm keeping track in Excel, where it can calculate the difference from the last time. I have it broken out in the 14 categories we have here and then totalled up. I don't have a set schedule so the differences are haphazard. (OCD, but not too OCD.) Anyway, On Dec 9, 2015, we had a total of 14,352 sets missing definitions. Today, we have 7,987 left and 5 are at zero. Not all is good news. We have 2 categories that have actually gone up since I started keeping track - Basketball & Non-Sport. Here it is in chart view:

Big kudos to whoever is working on football (tonym?).
Thanks to all who have added ANY definition - whether it be 1 in a set that was missing 10, or if you've entered in the fuill list for 100s of sets - either way, you've helped out this site. I'd love to see 3 more categories get to zero pretty soon, and then watch the others drop.It would be absolutely amazing to get it to the point where we 'd be checking every couple days to see if anything was even on the list. (Then, once it's all in there, we can worry about the consistency across the sets.)
Thanks again to all who are working on this with me. The progress is truly noticable!

It is nice to see how much most of the numbers have gone down in nearly 6 months. I've only been working on Racing and Football, mostly with adding scans and card info, but also doing "Check Names" and "Check Teams". Anything I can do to help the site be more complete and accurate is a win to me. Recently, I spent a lot of time working on 2013 Press Pass Fanfare Racing and 2015 Panini Clear Vision Football. I am currently working on 2013 Panini Crown Royale Football. All three releases are loaded with base parallels, inserts, and parallels of the inserts!
I hope everyone here keeps up the good work!

Knocked down a few of the non-sports sets.

One thing I'm seeing in the non-sports is L, VL, or R, U etc. This is for the most part for autos, I know what they mean, rare, limited, and very limited. Should this be left as is, and just add the description for the glossary?

I knew R & U as Rare and Uncommon, but not L or LV until you mentioned it. If it is used in the "Note" field, we need to have a definition for it. (There are the odd occasions where the definition winds up being the same as the "abbreviation" in Note.)
Thanks to all for the help!

I've seen Rittenhouse using the Limited, and Extremely Limited tags on their sell sheets, and on their website. I wonder if we should also list the production runs with that, as they don't always serial number the cards?

Great job to all those working on these. My focus when I have time has been on team verification in baseball, but might try to work on some of these to knock them down if I know them. I did some in baseball but its been over a year ago.
The bad news you listed isn't really all bad though, it means we are getting more checklists added for basketball and non-sport. That's always good to me.

You are correct - it's not REALLY bad news. It could be if Notes are being added to existing sets without the descriptions being added. :)
And the Team (and player) validation is very important too. I was planning on working on the team stuff once I got the glossary stuff cleaned up. (In fact, there have been several sets along the way when updating the Notes/Glossary, I also updated the teams.) As long as the work continues, this site will continue to be the best.

and like i mentioned before too, i've noticed on the new CL uploads, its real easy to go back and click the Names/ Team validation.. it helps keeps those numbers down.

Man, what a difference a day or two makes. Good thing this was brought up, as it looks like it motivated a lot of people. I did a few yesterday and might do some more in a bit.
