Time for an update. Only 4 categories remain in "Glossary-quest".
Boxing, Golf, Misc Sports, MMA, Multi-Sport, Non-Sport, Racing, Soccer, Tennis, & Wrestling all sit at ZERO.
Only Baseball, Basketball, Football, & Hockey remain. Just to put this in perspective before I give the numbers remaining now, when I first started tracking our progress, Baseball alone had just shy of 5,000 missing entries (and I had already reduced it down from over 7,000!) and we had over 14,000 missing across the entire site. Today's numbers:
- Baseball - 197
- Basketball - 293
- Football - 85
- Hockey - 499
- TOTAL - 1,074
Amazing! It's been a little more than 8 months since I started tracking this, and it was less than 3 months ago when I started this thread (at that point we still had almost 8,000 sets total remaining). So, almost 7,000 sets have been fixed (glossary-wise, anyway) in about 2.5 months. Great job everyone! What a great community we are! Keep up the terrific work! Thanks.

1000 still seems like a lot but when you put it in perspective to where it was before, WOW.
Nice work everyone!

I tried to work on some of these yesterday. Been far behind on trying to earn my keep while enjoying this site. I have to be honest, I was totally stumped on the ones I looked at. I tried to focus on the 2005 Topps Chrome, on a random choice. I looked everywhere for those, Cardboard Connection, Topps, Beckett, PSA. Could find nothing on those. Really would like to start helping out some more. Could anyone provide some coaching on different tips and resources to look for?

Beckett site provides good info on the sets. if you're in the set or insert set. click on the card then on the left there is a "Item Details" section, that will give a breakdown of Jersey, ball, auto, etc. click on the set name. scroll down a little , you'll see a section called "Header Lines" - in there it will give the break down of Group or distribution ODDs. also on that page is a set information section. i always try to find a card in that set and compare to what is in the site, read the back , etc. i don't have a paid subscription to it, so not sure how much detailed it goes.

I trully wonder if this will ever be corrected 100%, I know for a fact there are many hockey sets especially the In the Game ones that do not have the correct appreviations or missing some. Mostly because there are not accurate listings online. Only time will tell

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.

Probably not - but the fact that 10 of the 14 categories are at 100% (and have stayed that way for a while) is pretty impressive. Football is down to only 50. We are down to under 1,000 total now. Baseball alone was over 7,000 at one point less than a year ago! I think we're going to get close. The progress is promising.

I have been working feverishly on the hockey ones. Redoing so many of them is time consuming. People really need to pay attention to what they're doing and do it correctly. The ITG cards (except for Ultimate Memorabilia) are supposed to be PR'd and not SN'd. Someone even assumed an abbreviation, and I knew it was wrong the second I saw it. I have also been using Beckett whenever possible. If you're not sure, check on it - otherwise leave it!

~Aaron~ Please check "My Finnish Flash Collection" to see which cards I am looking for with my PC - willing to trade or buy anything I need. 2,174 unique Teemu cards....and counting (Last updated 22 April 2024) 828+ different Brett cards....and counting

I've been working mostly on basketball lately, and also going through the master glossary entries to correct things previously assigned. Found a number of typos (heroe for hero was surprisingly common, as was asistant for assistant), some really bad definitions (who would ever think PRE, PRES, PRO, or PROMO meant "Print Run"?), and some obvious errors caused by using the "update all" feature and not double checking the glossary entries afterward (such as SNSN25, SN2SN5, SNUER, etc.). I'm sure there are more I didn't catch, and there are some nonstandard abbreviations that could be changed (like SN 25 or SN/25 instead of SN25), but those seem like a lower priority at the moment. I agree it will never be perfect, but progress is being made.

HutNut, suomibear8, and the others who have not mentioned your work,
Thank you. Thank you. And once again, thank you. You guys are making this site better & better every day. I completely understand about the stuff being wrong. BTW, any abbreviation that starts with SN or PR automatically gets assigned Serial Numbered or Print Run, respectively. There is an unending supply of mistakes out there when it comes to the checklists, and abbreviations, and photos, and names, and teams.... You get the idea. That's why I championed one thing (glossary) and ran with it. Thankfully, you ran with me, and we got it almost under control. I already have my sights set on the next task. Ha! But not working on it yet - not until we get the glossary done. And again, I thank everyone who has made any contribution to it, even if it was changing one entry to be correct. That's one less someone else has to do. What a great community we have here!

OK, I was looking at the "stats" again today regarding the glossary. I just had to share this remarkable piece of info with you all.
Since I started tracking the number of sets missing glossary entries in December 2015, as a group, we have entered in the definitions for 13,519 sets - that were missing them. There have been others added since them (I know because I have worked on some, I'm sure many others have assisted as well), so we have provided definitions for about 14,000 sets in the past 9 months.
Let me repeat that: We have provided definitions for about 14,000 sets in the past 9 months.
Wow! That's over 1500 per month - Around 50 per day. Wow! Just wow!
