I may be in the minority here when I tell you how I do "pricing", but it works very well for me.
Since I'm mostly into baseball, I use the Baseball Beckett. I snagged an older one from my card shop owning (at the time) pal - it was already older when I got it, but I was looking more for older cards anyway. It's from Feb 2010. Then I bought a new one - Sept 2013. Also have the Jan 2016. I have found, that unless you're a dealer selling the newest stuff, and need the guide for the newest stuff, there's no need to get one every month. Anyway, I figure every 18-24 months is a good enough spread.
When I printed out my year-by-year Team checklists, and actually checked off the cards I had, and determined what I was missing, I then found the BVs of the missing cards (since this is team collecting, most are commons, with a few stars sprinkled in) and penciled those in on my checklist.
This method worked for me. Plus, then I track sales of the bigger ticket items and have an idea where I want to be on price. When one pops at the price - I pounce. (This recently happened with the 2015 Topps Gold set - I was in need of the #1 card - Jeter - and it had been going for $20-$30, with the lowest I saw being $17 or $18. I saw one for $4.99 (free shipping) and I snagged it so fast it would make anyone else's head spin!)
Maybe this doesn't work for everyone. I get that. Most people probably aren't as willing to be as patient about obtaining cards as I am. But, it works well, very well, for me. And yes, I have bought Beckett magazines and have supported them. As much as I dislike some of what they do, they are still a pretty reliable source of info. (But we [TCDB] are going to beat them!)

I was hoping to use the reports for a rough idea of what I should be paying for things on eBay and a general idea of what my cards are worth. That's mostly for my kids benefit when I croak so they don't sell my collection for 50 bucks lol. Would also be nice to have the prices print for trade transactions to get an idea if the trade is fairly balanced. Takes a long time to look up values when 100 cards are going both ways for example. I used to use the card collector software but that crapped out on me and they don't sell that program anymore.
