I've added all kinds of information, but I'm not getting points! What's up with that?

Yeah, I do a bunch of worthless stuff on this site too--like rate over 7000 sets, comment on over 120 sets, provide trivia on numerous sets, price thousands of cards, etc. Some jobs just don't pay much I guess.

There have been a few posts speculating on the point system. My observations come from a rookie (not in rank, but time as a member), so take it or leave it.
No doubt you have read that points (with the exception of scans) are tallied and distributed at the beginning of the month. Some have complained that they were not assessed their points: it is not always the 1st, there have been times when my score changes on the 2nd (maybe even 3rd). I have yet to not receive something. The quickest way to gain is submitting checklists, a task I have yet to take on (one day, but as a full-time college student/husband/employee I do not have the time). Scans are good, too. And come with (semi)immediate gratification. Keep in mind that the scan does not count until it is verified as cropped/scanned correctly- so if you do it yourself immediately, you will reap the rewards faster. Another task I have rarely done, although I do knock out some of the "Close to Completion" images.
I am not sure that rating, commenting, or adding trivia score points. I am leaning towards no, as I have not read this anywhere on this site (and I have read a lot). I have read that posting, adding links, and editing (if able) are ways to score, but I have not seen this consistently mentioned. Cropping, correctly adding PID & TID's, and adding correct player info does nab points. I have read that it is one point per task done of the above, but I have not experienced this. I am trying to figure out the system (and I will). It may be that for x amount of each of the above you get a % of a point. Ex. Every 10 correct TID's you receive 1 point, so if you did 62 in a month you receive 6 points for that category of work done. Or maybe it is a table system: 1-25 correct player attributes= 1 pt, 26-75 = 2 pts, et.al. It definitely is not 1 point per task.
This is all just for us competitors, anyway. The real reward is contributing to a comprehensive site for us, collectors. The reward is community and camaraderie. For the love of collecting. For the love of the games.

I think it's like "Who's Line Is it?" , The points don't matter....at least to me.

I honestly only cared about the points I was receiving because when I reached 10,000 (having been on here for over 3 years), it meant I would be granted the highest level of access rights (which means I can help the site more). I did A LOT of work on the glossary. I *think* Admin granted me some points for it, but I'm not sure. If that happened, great. If not, not a big deal. I was actually happier the day we got down to zero items in the undefined glossary terms than when I hit the 10,000 points. :)
Checklists are worth 5 points. I recently had a lot of extra time on my hands. That's changing (good thing). I will still have time at night, and I will continue to work on those. I enjoy doing them. Some are a lot of work. Some are simple. All worth 5 points. :)
Fronts are worth 1 point, backs are 2 points. Trivia, packaging, hobby publications, sell sheets, etc - are all 1 point each - when they get approved.
Points are cool - the more you get, the more access you can get. The more access you get, the more you can do to help the site. The more you help the site, the better the site is - the more people we can attract!

it is a pain, I've done 2400+ checklists and only just got over 8000 points, checklists can be quite long to do soemtimes, I wish they gave more for them

I look at my score every few months, when a topic like this comes up in the forums. I have no interest in where I rank compared to other users, but I do want to do enough work to stay in the top 100, for the good of the site and my fellow members. Gotta do my fair share. I'm not competitive about it at all. I'm fine with it if everyone ahead of me earns points at 10x the rate I do. That means the site is growing by leaps and bounds.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
