I asked, you have spoken. We are beginning the NVP (Name Validation Project)! I just started looking at the numbers not that long ago (10/21). I plan to "run the numbers" each Friday (usually night). Here's what I have for the first 2 weeks:
Category - 21-Oct - 28-Oct
Baseball - 3596 - 3475
Basketball - 640 - 594
Boxing - 13 - 12
Football - 1436 - 1469
Golf - 2 - 2
Hockey - 1436 - 1446
Misc Sports - 92 - 90
MMA - 130 - 178
Multi-Sport - 566 - 462
Non-Sport - 6581 - 6605
Racing - 1528 - 1582
Soccer - 442 - 446
Tennis - 50 - 22
Wrestling - 535 - 463
TOTAL - 17047 - 16846
Again, I have some semi-automated methods for finding the sets that have zero names remaining, they just need the "Mark as Verified" button clicked. If you find them along the way, great, click it. Don't go looking for them, I'll be doing that tonight (and if I can't finish tonight, I'll get to it tomorrow night). Yes, there will be some even after I do my automation piece, probably because of new checklists being added.
As you can see from the numbers, there are a lot of sets out there, and in many cases, they need a lot of work. I look forward to tracking our progress and helping to make this one happen too. Definitely attainable. Happy validating!

Great work Dan. I can see baseball quickly getting down to Minor League and the Asian sets. I'm always hesitant to mess with the Asian sets because of my unfamiliarity with nicknames and such. For instance, I know that James Doe and Jim Doe might be the same person in an English set. Not so in Japanese or Korean. I guess I could just go with it and somebody could clean it up later if they have the knowledge.
I would ask EVERYONE to be sure and "Mark as complete" when they add or match the last name in a set. Otherwise someone else has to. There are TONS of sets where all the multi player cards are matched correctly, but the person who did all the work didn't mark the set as complete.
-------------------------------
I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I am not sure what you mean David, it might be something I have been missing. More info would be great.

Ranford, when you go to any set on the name validation list, if all the cards are correctly matched (either an empty list or a list of multi player cards with all names attached) scroll to the bottom and click the button to mark the set as complete. That is the only way the list of sets gets shorter. Otherwise, all the names are matched, all the work is done, but the set is still on the list if that last button isn't clicked.

Is that the same one as "Mark as Verified"? I'm thinking so, if that is the case thumbs up lol.

Awesome, another task for the site. Will start working on it plus adding sets.

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.

Sure, that's probably it. I've clicked it so many hundreds of times now, I apparently don't actually read what it says anymore. Sorry for the confusion.

During this process, I think we should make sure that everybody who has ever gotten a card gets a PID. I've already been doing that with NBA and NASCAR anyway, but I could step up my efforts by adding one when I see one that does not yet exist. Sometimes I just scroll through random completed galleries or click on whatever was most recently posted...just to see the card scans. I will work on the NBA listings as soon as I finish typing up a couple of blog posts.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. Cardboard History My COMC New Collection Website: Cardboard History Gallery (Still under construction) Tips on how to make your scans look like the card does in hand (No more washed out, fuzzy scans!):

How's this been going as of late? I admittedly haven't been doing much on it since I was trying to add some scans and working on some checklists for sets not even listed on here, but thought if nothing else maybe a bump would get some people into it.
