It's "The Trading Card Database" but in addition to trading cards I see numerous other types of collectibles listed here: stickers, coins, figurines, fridge magnets, playing cards, etc. Just wondering if adding such fringe items is generally accepted or frowned upon by most users.

Most of the things you mentioned are gradeable by PSA and listed in the Standard Catalogue, Beckett, etc. I'm not sure what figurines are in here but the cards that come with the figurines (Transogram, Starting Lineup, etc) are also graded. So why not include them?

That said, I'm not sure where the line is cut here.

Gee, thanks. That discussion was the motivation for me starting this thread, since it ws focused almost entirely on collectibles which came inserted in packs of cards and there seemed to be strong opposition to including even those.

I'm thinking more generally of products which have seemingly no tangential link to card collecting at all. Some examples:

i know we discussed this before in the past and most were against it because the conscensous was to keep the site traditionally as a card database. I know there are some card products that come out with the coins, etc. and like the 2004 Fleer where they issued a playing card and a Hummer Matchbox vehicle in a small package- i get people not wanting to open it up just for the card (hell, i have one thats still sealed and not scanned on here although the space is there) --- Personally, i think allowing figurines and stuff like that will be nothing but a major mess and headache to maintain... you'll have everything from Tom Brady posters to deflated footballs. If anything, if Admin had the funds, maybe another sub site could be created off this one for those kind of items. It's frustrating enough that a card company intermingals non same-related sports as is... like Upper Deck or Mayo having Historic people / track&field or items in the football section.. it should be catorgized differently.. football is football..baseball is baseball, etc etc ---dont get wrong.. im all for other type of collectibles,,i just don't think this site is particurually suited for it...just my random rant/thought of the day. enjoy and stay warm up north :-)

If this site filled up with other stuff, I honestly think I would leave.  I know people sneak things in unnoticed and they don't always get caught right away, like the schedule debacle. That's the problem; a lot of people go rogue and start adding whatever they feel like without consulting Admin first, and because the site has gotten so big, things can get in undetected.

The correct answer, especially for a new member: before adding ANY non-card item, run it by ADMIN first.  Don't ask us. We don't all agree, and it really isn't our site anyway, even though most of us veterans feel like it is ours to a degree. It's Admin's site and Admin has the final say.

I agree with David 98%. (I'd probably still stay even if we started adding other materials.)

But as for the rest of it - I've said it before - Admin's site, Admin's rules & guidelines. I guess it wouldn't be a stretch to call me one of the "vets" on here, but I'm asking Admin for advice about once a week on how to fix/work with a set. After all, we all  could walk away anytime - Admin has to live with what we're doing.

 I didn't  know there were magnets and figurines in here.  I believe that is a mistake.

These are plastic and were not inserted into packs of Topps baseball cards and they must go according to the rules of this thread.

In reality I don't care and I have given up on trying to be the police of the database. Caring about what is added and not caring about the quality of what is added melts my brain more than magnets or pictures.

When I saw this card of the day and hovered my mouse over the front to see the back, I knew this site was at rock bottom as far as quality control goes.

That back couldn't be worse if my dog made it with Microsoft Paint.

The NFL magnets that I bought came in packs like cards, and are numbered like cards, had checklists like cards, and were pretty close to the same size as the cards (bigger than some oddball cards like Kellogg's). I would argue that they belong. But I love oddballs, and treat them as such.
