I know there are a few items that stretch the boundary of "card" well past Pluto but somethings get an * for good reason. They meet all the criteria of what Admin agrees with so they are kept. I have the Bill Ranford Pro-Magnet and am proud I have it and also just got my hands on his sew-on patch, which is also listed here. Sometimes the medium is not the end all but a group of specific traits come into play that allow for these * sets. But again that is just my opinion. Are the NHL Jello spoons on here I have never looked, I bought a whole case of them a few years back and still need to look at them. I would never even ask to have them added as to me that is just too far out in left field for this site.

Well, following all the posts and poking around the database, it is evident that there are entries that do not follow ADMINs' rules. Whether I irate members or not, still looks like a double standard.

Everybody has there own opinion on what they would like to see entered. Members are certainly interested in the topic, however.

Me, I personally don't care, I guess I was playing devil advocate with my posts. However, I like the idea having the site be strictly cards, but develop a link to other collectibles [within reason] that our members might be interested in, ex. Pocket Schedules, Coins, Headliners and so on. To ADMIN, not sure what the scope of this undertaking entails or whether it's even an option, but I kinda like it. It would be nice to not have to hunt the web looking for different collectibles that interest us.

Trying to decide if I care. I like that I have a place to list my entire collection and a place to talk about cards. Would having other things on here detract? Maybe. People who collect sports jerseys and other memorabilia certainly overlap with card collectors, but might also be a slightly different crowd. Even now, I'm a tad sad when threads and lists disappear off the first page quickly because others have taken their place. With more topics and people, the focus is divided. There'd be more sifting through to find topics of interest to me. 

In the end, I think I lean toward keeping it card and card-related stuff only, with a link to other things, if possible. How to judge what qualifies, I leave to the admin.

Personally, a real can of worms. If this is to be a card-only site, that means all of the coins should disappear including those issued in 1964. I know most members don't want that. So where is the line to be drawn. Well, as some said, let Admin rule on these instead of members dicussing the issue on long threads.  Most of the time, a forum on whether or not there should be an entry for something different becomes a place for people to rant about their dislikes leaving the issue unresolved.  To new members, this does not help them figure out what should be on or off.

As for the quality of scans, some of the older scans are not of as high of a quality as newer ones due to the improvement of scanners even in the last five years.  As well, some cards don't scan as well.  I personally cringe every time I see a comment about someone else's scan, usually these being negative comments. If we wish to stop members from contributing, keep it up.  We will most likely also lose members.

Every morning and probably once during the day, I take the time to scan and read the forums that interest me. I do get frustrated with the amount of threads there are to advertise something for sale on another site. If I wish to buy on these other sites, I would be searching on those sites, not on here.  But these threads are allowed by Admin, so I have never said anything (till now). I do wish these would have their own location on the site and not be embedded in the discussion threads.

But really, whatever may be included rightly or wrongly on here does not really bother me.  I search for the things in my collection.  So I never see hockey magnets, football figurines, deflated footballs, or anything else that is not in my collection.  Not sure why so many get so irate about these.  Just advise Admin and ask whether it truly should be on here and they can decide.

I would just like to add regarding the quality of scans - I think what some members are referring to (and I know because we've had private discussions about the scans) are not cards that are tough to scan or the dpi of old scanners, but that there are a great deal of scans out there that are mis-cropped, crooked, and otherwise "unacceptable" by the standards set forth, but are allowed (and even encouraged). If these same scans were uploaded today, by someone without the permissions to post immediately, they would get rejected. Some are over cropped, some are under cropped (I've actually gone in a fixed several of those when I find them), some are just crooked and can't be fixed up. There was one MiLB set in particular that was pretty bad, and I alerted Admin about it asking them to remove the images and I would resubmit the set, but they were apprehensive to do that (I assume the thought was that it may step on the toes of a big contributor). I have stated in the past that I don't care about points (and that's true), however, if I submit a scan to fix up a poorly scanned image, I don't want to see someone else's name (user ID) under my scan. Sorry - I don't know any other way to word that. They shouldn't get the credit. So, we live with many crummy scans. And toes remain intact. 

Well put everyone, to make this short and sweet (as I need to work for my WIFE today =) ??) I agree Admin does what Admin does plain and simple and I do not argue those decisions. I feel the for sale threads should be off the main threads board as they appear in both (why?), do they not have their own section. Also, he main thread section should be larger. And a possible secondary site (at some point) for all the non-card items to me is a great idea.

I gotta nitpick here, but these definitely belong. They are not figurines at all, but just molded photocards, that were sold in packs much like the 1980-1981 Topps Photos, about 5"x7" - I've got several of them. An Oddball if there ever was one.

Also, the Pepsi caps mentioned early on here belong as a Food Issue. I think the important thing here is that these were produced as sets.

But hey, I'm an oddball lover.

They are closer to being jello molds than baseball cards and they were not inserted in packs with baseball cards.  I found another Topps baseball set that would need to go too:

Whenever people decide to pick and choose what should or should not be on the database I head straight to Topps baseball and start looking for things that would need to go based on their criteria. (People hate when you shine the light on their Topps baseball.)

For the record I am not asking for anything to be removed from this database. Take a chill pill if a jello mold or a magnet or a schedule or a coin a collectible card game or a picture is causing you such pain that you need to demand it be removed.

My "Standard Catalog of <insert sport here> Cards" and "Beckett <insert sport here> Cards" include many of the items people want to remove, including the jello molds!

Add NAC to the notes and get on with our lives (NAC=not-a-card)?

I think it was Dave Sosidka who pointed out that the value of this database is increased by it not just including 1980s Donruss baseball checklists and that has kind of stuck with me since I read it.
