I like the best scanned card
-------------------------------
Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.

I like the best pose and preferably, a common card from a small market city. I know others will be choosing enough of the stars. Naturally this is not possble in most insert sets.

If there is plenty of examples to choose from I often look for a cool looking picture, however, quite often I end up picking a Tiger. Not being nepotistic (all the time ) its just when I am the only one, or one of the only ones who has scanned in some refractors or such that are lower serial numbered sets my choices are usually just the ones I put in and one other card or two. Since once I chose a different scan than the one I put in, it turned out that I wasn't paying close enough attention and the uploaded scan ended up not even being from that set. I contacted admin and they were able to take the wrong scan out of the database, but it was "stuck" as the example card even though it was erased. So, long story short, when options are limited I will pick something I put in assuming I put it in the right place so that doesn't happen again.

For an old set missing a sample, I'm going to pick the card that best represents the set as long as it has a good scan. I was happy to see that the 1979 Topps MLB set already had the Ozzie Smith RC as the sample and that it's a good scan. If it wasn't there already, I'd have put it there because it is iconic to that set. Just like many 2001 MLB sets should have the RC cards of Albert Pujols or Ichiro Suzuki as the sample card. These examples are before the current era of all RC cards being AU's and or MEM's. Those RC cards should not be the Sample b/c they only show the rare cards and those cards really don't resemble the base set.
For newer releases with very few scans, I will mostly go with my own scan IF it is not a subset card. I want to see the main player/driver cards as the Sample, not cards of multiple players or a mascot or a stadium/arena/track. If I have multiple versions of the same card (the base card plus parallels), I like to add all/most of those to show the difference b/t the different versions of a card. I try to be subjective when adding samples instead of playing favorites, but it isn't always possible.

lambert and Billy,
You have to go to the Overview page for the base set to add the Sample card! It apparently can't be done from the Checklist page.

I am not sure but I think if there are insert sets to a major base set, the option is not there for the base set. Those I have been able to upload are for sets that were the only issue for that set.

Billy & Sandy, have you tried since February?
It still works for me to add base card samples when I go the the set overview page. Any set in any sport/non-sport release, I've never had a problem being able to add a Sample card for them (base, parallel, or insert).
