Sorry Chuck, but think of it this way, you got to experience the thrill of opening 70s cards when they were new, something I could never have.
I got here by doing a search online. Usually searches bring up nothing useful, but this time it did. I had taken a break from the NBA in 2006, and was not actively collecting it in 2012, but I had finished scanning my entire NASCAR collection and Non-Sports collections, and I began working on scanning my NBA collection. After being away from the hobby for 6 years I didn't remember all the details and couldn't always remember which insert went to which season, and I couldn't figure out how to label a specific card. That was in August 2011. I used the site for checklisting only until October 2012, when I discovered you could track your collection here...that was it. I spent the next 5 weeks working on entering my collection here, and for some reason I started with the NBA- I guess maybe so I would be able to just go here and check which cards I had. Not only did it hook me on the Database, it got me back into the NBA full-time. It brought up so many memories, good memories, that I could not help but go back to the sport. It also didn't hurt that I had begun watching the NBA on a regular basis again by that point. Ironically(?) I don't actually remember what card or even what brand it was that I was researching that led me here.
Now I consider taking a break one of the biggest regrets of my life, but there's no possible way to fix it. :(
It's also a direct result of being on the Database that I have now taken up hockey. A thread here talking about the new Vegas team's logo got me curious, so I put on NHL Network and got hooked big time...just since November the NHL has already become my #2 sport, supplanting NASCAR. And truth be told, I'm watching more hockey and I've gotten more hockey than basketball cards in 2017, but that may be because of the new factor. The getting more cards is unquestionably the result of the kindness of fellow collectors- I've gotten more than 1000 hockey cards already in 2017, but I've only purchased about 250 of them myself...the rest all came as gifts. Not a single day has gone by since November that NHL hockey was not a part of my life.
VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.
