Hi everyone,
Admin has recently introduced card number, note, and set verification to add to the name and team verification we already had. With this, I just want to remind everyone of the guidelines Admin has set forth with these areas (and acknowledge that there have been some changes over the years).
Name - In the past, incomplete checklists were frowned upon. With these changes, it makes it possible to track sets that are not complete. Please use "TBA" for the name when the name is unknown. Please do include the cards where the name is unknown. By putting them consistently as TBA and not verifying the names, as the other sets complete, we'll see these that still need work. Please verify the set if there are no entries on the validation page, or if the entries on the page meet 1 of these 2 criteria: 1 - it's a multi-person card and all persons on the card have PIDs, or the card is of an entity that does not get a PID (Team, Logo, non-proper noun, etc.). If you do not know how to make the verification page get to that point, do not validate it, leave it for someone else to do so.
Team - For sets where teams can be added, ensure that the team listed in the database is what is listed on the card. These guidelines have not changed. If there is even one card in the set that you cannot discern the team, again, don't verify the set, leave it for someone else.
Number - Only validate a set if you have visual proof of the actual card numbers. There are too many instances of companies putting out "official" checklists that are not the same as what they've actually used on the cards (I'm looking at you, Panini) and where other websites (even big hobby entities) use wrong info or make up card numbers. If the card does not have a number, it gets NNO. Even if there are 100 cards in the set, if there is not a number on the card, NNO. And not NNO1-NNO100. Just NNO. If a card is "34 of 56", we still only use 34.
Notes - This is where we're finally going to be able to get unified abbreviations for a particular term. In baseball, MG and MGR have been used for "Manager". We seem to have reached a consensus in another thread that we'll use MGR. Other terms are still open for discussion, but please, let's open them up for discussion and find what works best for the community as a whole. We have a lot of really intelligent and experienced hobbyists here, let's continue to use that knowledge.
Sets - Sets can only be verified once all the other components have been verified. This will help us keep an eye on the sets that still need help. Eventually, those will be the only sets on the list. Also, verifying a set locks it down and keeps it from popping up on these lists. I've already done this for a couple of sets that I own and are very familiar with (like you could say the player's name and I could duplicate the pose in the photo - that type of familiar!). I'm not saying that's the level of comfortable you should be, however, please ensure that you are 100% confident that all components of the set are correct. Once it's verified, the only way to fix anything is through a request to Admin, and I think we can all agree that is something we'd like to avoid.
Following these guidelines, we make this site better and better each day. Thanks to everyone who contributes, no matter the amount. Fixing one card number, adding the team on one card, or scanning an entire 800-card set (not a small task!) all helps this site and is appreciated by the community of hobbyists here. On behalf of the community - thank you. We have already done great things, and we continue to.
