So I'm taking time on an off-day from work today to become an asset to our card collecting cropping community (nice alliteration).
I've uploaded images before that have been posted - just a handful, but they're there - but I'm never sure that I've completed the process, or if (and that's probably more likely than not) someone else is coming behind me and making the image presentable. I have cropped some images, but not all the ones I've uploaded to the site, so I'm not sure of what actually happened.
Is the actual process to upload a picture, crop it, and review it? Or are those functions there because all the cropping should be done prior to uploading?

I prefer to use a tool on my machine that crops and gets the image ready before even uploading. I think those tools here on the database are "legacy" tools from when there wasn't free software to really work with at home. They can be used, and if you don't have the tools on your machine, certainly use them. But it looks like you've described the process correctly.

Obviously it is preferred that you crop those you wish to upload. It saves everyone else the work to go and crop those you didn't. But if unable to crop on your own, then an image uploaded is better than none; many are glad to finish the work required.

Thanks, Dan, I shall proceed with attempting the work beforehand to save others from doing my work.

I used it before i post because i find that the program I use, sometimes I leave a black boarder that needs to be trimed away.

Robert “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped and summer was gone.” ― A. Bartlett Giamatti robertkimble.us/tradingcards

So in the couple of hours, or so, that I've spent cropping and uploading MY missing images I've learned to be a bit more patient with the actual process. Most of the issue is learning my scanner's idiosyncracies. I thought it liked multiple cards at once because it divides them up into single images, BUT it tends to cut off some edges in the process. SO...I now do each card individually.
So...another question: I've labeled one of my previous scans as "Problem: Crooked" and rescanned the image and improved it tremendously, not 100%, but I'd give me an 80ish. Will Admin delete the crooked one and add the straighter one, or does it remain until someone's able to straighten it out?

The photoediting program "PhotoScape" that our own Billy has been recommending for sometime now is excellent at straightening images out. It is a free download. He has a nice blog post "How to make your scans look like cards" that has a link to the photoscape.org site. I'm sure Billy will be willing to help with using the program/tool if you have problems or questions about how to do it.

Thanks, Dan, for cleaning up for me. If I ever get my own computer I can download Photoscape, Spotify, Audacity, and Stream!

I still use the xite cropping tool, I always scan, rough crop, and straighten before I upload. Then I do the final crop on the DB. Odd yes ..... but I have a system I am used to.
