This topic comes up often, the last I reread was this one http://www.tradingcarddb.com/Forum.cfm/Page/B/ID/0/?MODE=VIEW&ThreadID=1272, but I am now frustrated with two deals - not with the partners, but with the way it works, or causes more work to accurately inventory the collection on our site. Presently I have two trades that have been agreed to and "In Progress" and the sequence to transfer cards between parties was not followed in one case causing inventory issues on my end, and was followed in another, but still causing another inventory issue.
I really want to reiterate that this post is not aimed at anyone, but rather at the way the process is set up technically.
Trade #1 - My trade partner didn't show the cards being sent, but I received them and followed the sequence, and the cards show up in my collection AND on want list. I informed him that I believed he needed to follow the sequence and he updated his end to show "Package Sent". Now I'm showing the cards "In Transit" twice. I'm not sure what they show on his end. One thing I did last night was begin to remove the cards from the "Want List", but didn't get to all of them. Those only show one card "In Transit".
- The solution to this one was to have followed the sequence, but even so, I believe if I'd have waited for my partner to have logged his part as "Package Sent" first, before me beating him to the punch and logging mine as "Package Received" this problem wouldn't have occurred.
Trade #2 - The sequence was followed, but the cards from either side (on my end) are not showing in either "In Transit", "For Sale", or "Want List", and we did use Method 2 to trade, to where the cards are added to the transaction by the system. This trade also is still "In Progress". This one baffles me more because I believe we followed all the steps.
I'm hesitant to simply begin clicking to fix this because I'm concerned that I'll mess things up more until both parties have their cards and have shown the trade completed. (Which I'm about to do on Trade #1 as I've just received a notification that my cards were received by my partner. I'll add what transpired on the "In Transit" cards.) *Nothing happened to the cards I received - they're still showing either as "In Transit" once for those I removed from the Want List, or twice for those I didn't get to.
The current process for trades using Method 2 is this:
- Accepted
- Card status is unaffected and they remain in either "Trade" or "Want" lists
- Package Sent
- Cards go into "In Transit" with no distinction as to coming or going
- Package Received
- Cards transferred from "In Transit" to "Collection" or removed entirely depending on which way cards were going
- Transaction Completed
I'm not sure what to do, but the issue is that our inventory is significantly at the control of another's full and sequential participation in the system, and I don't like that headache. I don't know if it's as simple (tech guys are smiling irritably) as setting up distinct "In Transit" categories, or adding a drop-down option of "Transfer Cards to Collection". I'd like some improvement made, though. All suggestions welcomed.
