I was just linking multi-name entries in a multi-sport set, when I noticed that some top players were getting very high-numbered PIDs. A little research showed me that the cards in question were linking to a hockey player named Mike Schmidt, a football player named Michael Jordan, and a basketball player named Jim Brown. In my first attempt to fix, I clicked update on each one, and it sent Schmidt to a racing Schmidt and Jordan to a different football Jordan. All PIDs in question had numbers above 100,000. I fixed this set manually, but in the process noticed that each of these guys have a lot of other cards of their better-known counterparts attached, besides my set.
I wonder if Admin did something behind the scenes recently that may have triggered this, and may not be aware of it? I would think that for sure I have split multi-player, multi-team Jordan cards, and they went to the right one before.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I have noticed lately that some PID's are getting duplicated b/c of new sets coming out and somehow getting new PIDs for some people. Not exactly what you are saying, but I was adding a Harriet Tubman card from a 2008 or 2009 A&G baseball set last week and it got a 100K PID. I checked it out and all of her 2017 Topps cards were listed with a different (and new) PID than all the ones released in previous years. The spelling of her name was exactly the same, so I don't know how those didn't link to her original PID.
It's odd how often player names get a new PID and either didn't need one OR the new one starts linking to all new cards of the previous player with the same name. I guess that's another thing we can thank Topps and Panini (and other manufacturers) for doing, constantly putting out new cards of long-retired and even deceased people, along with all the multi-sport releases coming out these days! All the new crap seems to confuse the system or the members here.

It's been going on for a while. Gotta be careful.
For Spaz's example, that's easy. Somebody was too lazy to look and find her PID in non-sports (they DON'T automatically connect) and made a new one for her under baseball. A message to Admin will fix it, but not being lazy would prevent it from happening in the first place.
By the way, I'm being so harsh on this because doing it right would have been two clicks. Check names - check for names in other categories. That's it, done.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. I should clarify that the football Michael Jordan, basketball Jim Brown, etc. are real people on real cards within those sports. It's not duplicate PIDs of existing people. And unlike other categories, multi sport cards do auto connect to other categories, so it's just odd that suddenly, new multi sport cards are linking to the newest PID with a given name, not the oldest.

I've been spending a lot of time lately associating/creating PIDs for non-sport tobacco cards. Duplicate name entries, minor name misspellings, and people with the same name make the PID association process painfull.
Most of my problems are probably due to my lack of experience - but I sometimes have problems when adding new names (especially when names are shared). I try to follow the guidelines in FAQs....but I don't think the process explained correctly or sufficiently.
Here's an example from a "1888 Police Set" of someone I can't seem to create a PID for. There are two "John McCullagh" in this set and I can't seem to get the database to create two seperate PIDs.

When I run into problems like this I stop. I don't want to end up creating needless or duplicate PIDs. I wonder if some users don't realize the impact of PID associations, especially single sport/category collectors.
Yesterday when working on a set with "John Paul Jones" the naval officer, I noticed that he had several Led Zeppelin cards (John Paul Jones the musician) associated with his name.
I removed all the Led Zeppelin cards from the naval officer's PID but there is not a PID for John Paul Jones the musician. Now all the Led Zeppelin cards with John Paul Jones (the musician) are not associated with a PID.
I'm just pointing out the challenges that some users may encounter and then give up in frustration or fear of "screwing up" the database.

Here's the card I was refering to in my earlier post about "John Paul Jones"
Led Zeppelin
It was linked to John Paul Jones (Naval Officer). I removed incorrect PID association but how do you add John Paul Jones (musician) and correctly associate him with this card? Every time I try it keeps auto-associating to John Paul Jones (Naval Officer). I think this is his only card.
I personnaly don't really care because I'm not interested in John Paul Jones (muscian) but since I removed the incorrect PID association, I now feel responsible to "fix" the card.
