I have a very similar but not quite identical Nolan Ryan card (it has the same gold foil on it) and have been told it was a card given out at some of the bigger card shows that year. No one has been able to tell me who released the card, but they all said it came from the shows. If you hear a definitive answer, definitely let me know! They may be minor releases, but I love the foil they put on these cards! Especially that they used it on the facsimile signatures as well.

Mostly likely, an unauthorized issue by some dealer/collector somewhere. Many of these cards were used to make plaques or other "homemade" items. There is no inherent value to them.

It says "collectible promo card" on the bottom.....it could've come from literally anywhere.

There is no inherent value in any pieces of cardboard until two or more people want it and assign a value to it.

Here here, any value is one we assign ourselves. NJDevils wrote: There is no inherent value in any pieces of cardboard until two or more people want it and assign a value to it.

Wow- shame on me for my choice of words. What I meant to say is that the card holds no traditional collector-assigned, two-or-more-people-want-it value. I ask that the previous testimony be stricken from the record, your Honor.

Online, I saw a 1990 Donruss Frank Thomas 'rated rookie' that someone made, I'd buy that. They can't legally sell it though, but I'd buy a reprint of a card that was very closely replicated to the actual set of cards. Finding a legit photo would be a must too, which some people have been able to find. There are a lot of players that certain brands never made a rookie card for unfortunately.

I am sorry if anyone was offended by remarks. I was just trying to show some of the younger collectors out there what they have. A piece of cardboard. Yes, possibly a collectible. But as someone write, "collect for the love of the hobby". If you do this as an investment, it has its' risks as do most investment. In the 90's when the dot.com bubble burst, the value of collectibles stagnated or dropped, even fine art. So younger collectors should be in it for fun. I have collected over 50 years and have hand-built all my sets. I have never spent a cent on individual card. I bought boxes or packs when they came out. That was my choice. If others want to spend $10 for a rookie card of their favorite player, that is their prerogative. Just beware of the fluctuations. Bonds RCs were going sky high in the early 90s and you are lucky to get a buck for one now. Collect for fun, not for value.
