Not a real mystery, but can you spot the error? How has this been missed for 53 years? Clues or pieces of knowledge that I had and caused me to spot the error.
- MLB expanded in 1962; adding NY Mets and Houston Colt .45s
- The Expansion Draft for the new teams occurred on October 10, 1961
- Charlie Neal played for the LA Dodgers during the 1961 season

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

So he was traded at the end of 1960 to a team that didn't exist until the beginning of 1962?

Actually, they were only off by a year - from Baseball Reference:

Exactly right. Was glaringly obvious to me. The trade was in 1961 not 1960. How'd this go undetected for 53 years? I couldn't find any reference to this error in an internet search.

Trade details are off too. He wasn't traded FOR two players and cash. He was traded WITH one player FOR one player and cash, according to the Baseball Reference citation, which I trust as accurate.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

You're right. The wording is incorrect. It cost the Mets $100,000 and one player (Lee Walls). That last sentence should read, "Charlie was traded to the Mets on Dec. 15, 1961 for $100,000 and a player."

That is actually incorrect too. He was traded for 1 player (Lee Walls) and $100K, PLUS a player to be named later (which was Willard Hunter in May 1962). The card couldn't have listed that last player, but it still missed the actual trade info.
