So, apparently in the recently released Topps Baseball Series II, there are cards showing up with the foil "Topps" logo on both the right and left sides of the card.
I can't find any reference to this being an actual parallel situation but there's a guy selling these the right side ones as SSP for $10 a pop.
I just bought some case breaks of Nate Karns and got 20 of the "base" card with the logo on the left and 10 of the other one with the logo on the right. Obviously, these aren't "super short printed" or anything but are they actually a parallel? Seems like there are an awful lot for a printing error.
Anybody?

My guess...and this is only a guess...is that they printed the cards at two different times, possibly two different locations, and that the quality control was lacking.  I know horrible quality control from Topps may come as a surprise to some of you, but...

Anyway, as an avid error/variation collector, I have no interest in these cards.  To me, they are like the cards that are printed without foil in that there is no way to gauge how many actually exist, if you could collect an entire set, etc.

The title of this thread was a little missleading. I was thinking it was some oddball gimmick of flipping the logo on printing plate so the text would read backwards. Anywa I agree with griffey423, at the least a different print run, or a different printing location.

I also don't consider these type of things varitants or true errors. As griffey also said there is no way of knowing exactly how many were printed that way. Enough for more than one collector to possess one, but not a big enough variant to make it a parallel "set". Unless the official Topps website mentions them in promotional materials or a site like cardboard connections mentions them in their review/checklist for the set. I don't consider it important enough to collect.

Reminds me a little of something like the 1991 Topps Baseball where the anniversary logo on the back was printed with more ink so that it stands out more, or the 1990 Topps Football "Disclaimer" backs.It is a monotinous task like trying to collect all unscratched 1960s Topps football card back cartoons as well as scratched ones that show the answer to the trivia question or cartoon. Or for most 1970s and 1980s Topps Non-Sport cards collecting the "star" variants. 1 star, 2 stars, no stars whatever that are by the card title on the front that many thought were which print run the cards were in but are supposedly (according to a forums discussion on some oddball card site that was discussing Star Wars cards) it is whether the card was on the A or B side of an uncut sheet durring printing. That confuses me as I always thought the "sides" of a sheet were the front and back, but I'm thinking they mean which side meaning left or right side (or which column/row) the card is on.

I have never noticed Topps to be consistent with logo placement. It looks to me like the put it left or right with no pattern, looking back a few years.. Are you saying you have seen the same card with the logo in two different spots? That wouldn't suprise me coming from Topps, just to get people to collect em' all.

Can someone post a picture as I want to see what these look like. I have tried searching but have come up empty.

Yes, I have 2 "different" Nate Karns base cards from Series II, one with the Topps logo in the top left and one with it in the top right. I'll try and post scans when I get home from work

The backs, as far as I can tell, are identical. In my 3 case break, I got about 20 of the left logo and 10 of the right.

Cool, looks like a variation to me.

Did you check the serial numbers on the back to see if they are the same? If different than its a purposeful variation by Topps, if not than it seems like it should be an Error and Correction, but who knows which is which without more research?

Yep, that was one of the first things I checked. Both have the same code. I did notice that the "right side" card seems to have been printed slightly lighter than the other, most noticeable in the text for "Seattle Mariners" which is darker on the "left side". But that may just be an actual printing mistake an not intentional.
