Card Identification Forum

I have a silver version(s) of some of these cards and can't figure what insert or related set it is. Some have a foil look surrounding the player while others don't. Looking through some scans and it's hard to tell if the scan is just dark or not silver. Can any of the hockey experts point me in the right direction please. Thank you.

Hey randylaw, some scans might help us out, as looking at the set itself they all appear to be a foil based card, just different combos of foil or colors of foil, even holofoil I assume. Dark images just makes me assume not the best scan, but I have known to err before. =)

Well, I went to look at the different parallel sets (and 2 of the sets were parallels of inserts, which are "Insert" sets, not parallels - fixed those) and the scans that are there are just a giant mess! No wonder you can't figure out what you have. *I* have the Yzerman ones and *I* can't figure out what's what from these scans. Looks like there are a lot of incorrect scans. I am away on business right now, so I can't see my cards to tell, but there were 4 parallels:

• Artist's Proof
• Ice
• Metal
• Premium Stock

The Artist's Proof cards say it on the front (in the photo area on the left side). <Correct example>

The Ice cards have prismatic foil and say Summit Ice on the reverse (in the small photo area - lower left). <Correct example>

The Metal cards are on reflective foil board. <Good correct example>

The Premium Stock is on thicker stock and highly reflective foil. <Good correct example>

They were just as confusing 20 years ago when they first came out. No one knew what any of these were. It was very easy to allow one of the parallels to slip through the cracks. I used to find them in the commons boxes quite frequently. The Artist's Proofs were the best to find. :) Hopefully, this helps you identify which parallel you have.

That breakdown should help some. I really wish the card companies would do a better job of indicating what insert or related set a card is from if it isn't blatantly obvious. Thanks for the help

Like I said, even 20 years ago, we all had a heck of a time figuring out if it was the Metal or the Premium Stock. At least the others are marked. Just like the first year or two of refractors in Finest, they weren't labeled, but I guess Topps got enough feedback that they started labeling them and all the Chrome ones too.

Metal cards are mirror foil. Holofoil is Premium stock. I had the same question but found a packaging image online that clearly spelled it out. It was for the football set but since the cards looked exactly alike I'm sure it was the same in hockey, considering the sets from multiple sports I'm sure of match naming conventions.

Most of the scans on here are in the wrong place. I only have the Metal parallel in my collection.
