Hey all -
Reaching out to everyone on this site. I've been collecting autographs for the better part of nearly 15 years now, Because of this, I feel no shame in saying that I'm aware of many features of autograph collecting. However, I also admit that I'm no expert and not perfect. The card you see here was received via a TTM request with JoePa quite a few years back; not in 2001 as the date on the bottom of the card back says, but certainly before all of the Penn State issues came to life.
Personally, I doubt the authenticity of this autograph. First of all, it seems too well printed on there. Secondly, there appears to be an inconsistency at the top of the "J" (which may be hard to see via scans), almost like someone was a little unsure of their copy job. Finally, I'm aware of how much fan mail college coaches get, and how easy it is to have a secretary or an autopen to sign a stack of items to send back (and I did not send this card in).
Regardless, this has a place in my autograph collection. However, it is not listed in the database (as I imagine most single-card individual releases aren't; I have one of Bob Patterson and Kurt Warner that would also fit this description). My question is mainly should this card be listed? And if so, how? I haven't searched in depth, but a quick Google search only showed me a small picture of the same card "signed" in blue ink (which is buried in an old thread with a ton of Photobucket error messages). I will worry about the authentication part later, but would like to get this in the database if possible.
Thanks in advance.
Jason
I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.
