This question applies to two sets 1939 World in Arms by Gum Inc. and the Canadian version 1939 Fighting Forces by O-Pee-Chee.

The set was published with 6 subsets and numbered accordingly "see scans".

The O-Pee-Chee is already listed in the database and is numbered : "Airplanes1", "Airplanes2"....."Ships1", "Ships2"......etc.

I think the O-Pee-Chee versiion is numbered correctly according to the FAQ guidance:

"The card numbers listed on checklists should try to reflect the card numbers as they appear on the cards themselves, including any dashes, prefixes, or suffixes. Unnumbered cards should be entered in as "NNO"."

The only issue I have is the spacing. In the O-Pee-Chee version that is already listed, there is not a space between the subset title and the card #. On the card itself there is a space (see scan). Since we can't put a space in the card# field, should we number the Gum Inc. set like the OPC set is already numbered?  Maybe likes this:

Airplanes_1 or Airplanes-1?

You can put spaces in numbers, and this set is already listed. I have one. I didn't know there was an OPC version. Look in 1938. My research when I first got my card showed it was from 38.

Thanks Billy. I didn't know you could put spaces in the number field....good to know. I found the set in 1939. I must have overlooked it; both the Gum Inc. and OPC versions are listed.

I hope I didn't post the OPC version and just forgot, LOL. I love the pre-War non-sports cards, but don't have too much access to them. Was glad to find the one I have locally. I guess this would actually be "during war" instead of pre-war. Glad to help!

I'm the one that created and uploaded that set from a request in the inacquracy reports. I did it by text method instead of by spreadsheet, so when I typed it in the first time it tooke the card# as "Airplane" and the card name as "1 United States 'Flying Fortress'" so they had to be together to enter correctly.

I was having the same problem. That's why I thought you couldn't include a space in the "CardNum" field. I've edited the card numbers by editing the "card number" field manually however I think there is a 15 character limit doing the field this way. I am unable to edit the "field artillery" and "fortifications" portions because they exceed 15 characters with the number and a space.

Anyone know how to fix it at this point? (OPC set the Gum Inc set is correct)

If you use the excel method, which is preferred when doing sports, you can use spaces in the number field.

When using the "text" method, the import method looks for the first space in the line to determine when the "card #" ends and the "Name" begins. There is no way around this using the text import method.

That's good info. I haven't ran into the need to put a space in the card number field before. I will go the excel route in the future.
