To my friends around the country, in the great USA and around the globe. Olympics are special, but in Canada the winter olympics mean just a bit more. Well said ranfordfan, I am a huge fan of the Winter Olympics. Always root for my home country USA but the other two nations I root for is Poland (being a Polska) and our friendly neighbors to the North. 

I just bought a 2012 Extreme CFL Grey Cup 100 Years 200 card set from someone in Canada. I'm very excited to open it.

I’m from these here United States, and my wife is from Mexico.  I think we both have at some point said it would be awesome to move to Canada.  Have you ever seen the requirements to request Canadian citizenship? I looked once out of curiousity and found it’s really tough. Pretty much never going to happen.  Plus, I don’t really like traveling lol.  Down in the desert I stay. 

I’m a big supporter of the US as well. The other countries I root for are Germany, England (both my roots), Canada, and Norway (for no particular reason).

I think that growing up, it never really occurred to me that I was supposed to prefer the athletes from my country.  I was glad when that Russian kid beat Nancy Kerrigan.  I'm pulling for the South Koreans in doubles curling.  I guess, in my strange way of thinking, I am drawn to people who aren't like me.  Not to say I won't be rooting for some American favorites like Mikayla Shiffrin and Shaun White.  I will also add that it's impossible to not like Maame Biney as she's being interviewed on TV right now.  She's just having so much fun!

Great commercials. It enbodies part of what the Olympics should be. As an American, I hated when NBC kept focussing in on Pence and Kim Jung-on's sister. This is not a time for politics. It's a time for having pride for your country through sport. And, learning about people on an individual level, because, in the end, as humans, we need to be reminded our hearts are all the same. The Olympics is an event that does that once every two years.

 I agree it should be kept non-political.   The one thing that really bothered me was when President Carter pulled the Olympic team from going to Russia in summer of 1980.    These kids (back then they were amateurs, remember) had little to look forward to after the Olympics and this was their life!     I will always remember Carter as a fool for doing this.   There, I've politicized TCDB.

Hey we noticed that as well, I said to the wife is it that hard to keep this about the atheletes, and couldn't they at least golf clap for each other, like seriously. But all in all it was a good opening, seen more exciting ones for sure. The best part was the Intel drones, that was so cool. The four singers not so much, the one fellow looked like the shop owner from Gremlins. It was an odd song choice done in an odd way but the dove was way cool.
