I know I am new to this site, but I wanted to share a little story.
I went in for a simple back procedure a couple of weeks ago. Actually lets back up. I cant pinpoint when I hurt my back. I have been having issues for years with tightness. It all started about 5-6 years ago by horseplaying in a pool with my kids, I almost drowned from my back locking up. About two months ago at work i was having tightness and ended up having to throw a set of stop sticks. The next day I couldn't move. Two days later back at work I kicked a suspect and again the next day I couldn't move. So I went to my doctor and had a MRI done. It showed a ruptured disk in L4-L5 vertebra.
They gave me two options, surgery or spinal injections. I chose injections. My body apparently didn't agree with the injections and I have had blurry vision and severe burning in my lower body since on top of severe migraines. It is starting to get better but I could use all the well wishes and prayers i can get. I'm ready to get back to work! I have pretty much just been in bed for two weeks waiting on the symptoms to go away.
Moral of the story is, take care of your body when you are young, you cant fix certain things that you tear up. I was always a "hey y'all watch this" kind of guy. Now I am paying dearly for it in my mid 30's haha.

I hear you loud and clear, I was a floor layer from 1989 through til 2008, over time I did enough damage to my body to make my wife to tell me to quit. So I changed to contacting, and now at 46 (which I thought was ancient when it was my dad) I have so many parts needing help its scary. Both rotator cuffs, lower back, fingers, neck, knees ............ and Istill have 20 years minimum to go!! All you youngsters be careful and work safe. I didnt listen to all the lifing warnings and now I regret being pushed around by bosses to do things I should have reported.

They say it's all downhill after 35. I'm going to be 61 in a few months. It's scary.

I hear ya. Baseball is my first love, but I've played competitive soccer since I was 6, and now I'm 45 and my knees hurt continuosly, my left ankle is gone and has limited rotating movement, and the left achilles tendon is weak after a rupture 10 years ago. Also being a goal keeper I have had a fair share of concussions both major (diving to make a save head first into a goalpost isn't a fun experience) and minor (the little swirllies of light after diving to make a save and bouncing off the ground and then "woozie" for a few moments). I really am more aware now of issues I could have prevented earlier. However, I can honestly say I don't think I would have changed my participation in sport, but wish I would have been more aware in the past an taken some time off after an injury rather than push my body through it. I really hope you recover and are able to go back to work and be able to regain your physical way of life that you want.

I review disability claims for my work and I see a lot of back complaints. The back is no joke! I'm always hunched over at the computer and I need to stop that.
I hope you have a full recovery!

As someone living through multiple herniated discs myself, I understand. I hope you find the right treatment and are back protecting us soon. Thanks for doing what you do!

Also had back issues (tried to stop a nitrogen bottle from falling down a small set of stairs) and I know that pain, well wishes and hopefully a speedy recovery.

Throwing stop sticks and kicking a suspect? You're either a police officer or you have a strange time at the office.
Hope your back starts feeling better soon.

Yeah, it gets a little wild in my office at times =)
I try to make sure my kids, even from a young age understand nutrition. I think thats one of my biggest issues, I eat like crap and I am 60 pounds over weight. 6'3" and 260 pounds. It makes moving difficult and slows reaction times which we tend to over compinsate for. With the exception of my oldest, shes just lazy, my other three kids love working out in the gym at my house I dont use lol. And they all prefer a fruit over candy.
You young guys reading this, listen up to these older gentlemen, take care of your body and dont let the little things go because with time they become bigger issues.
I refuse to let my kids play soccor or football, at least until high school and we can reasses. I dont like the idea of head injuries at such an early age. They have all begged to play soccor, but we only let them play softball and baseball, at least there is some protection. My son who plays 8u is the only kid on the field wearing a face mask.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
