Yes I read this tonight .................. 75 stores in the UK, 182 stores in the USA ....................... but !!!!
Business as usual for Toys R Us Canada division. The VP announced late today that they have only sought out creditor protection in Canada and not bankruptcy like the other branches .................
So cross your fingers Canuckles!!!!!!!!

I swung in on Saturday to see if I could score some cards on the cheap. All cards in the place were still full price with the exception of two blaster boxes of 2016 Topps Series 2 that were on clearance for $22.
RIP Geoffrey.

This is correct, 800 stores in the United States are being closed. I spent 10 years as a Toys R Us manager and even though that was nearly 20 years ago I still feel like with the stores closing I am losing part of my past.

Really hate to see this. The last link to my childhood collecting just died. I can still remember going in and seeing a wall of Hot Wheels, and GI Joes...I remember finding the newly issued Monster Trucks which had the first scale Grave Digger circa 1994...I remember finding my first Racing Champions Superbird on the shelf (#7, Ramo Stott) on the tip from a classmate that they had restocked in the summer of 1993...then later, in the 90s and 2000s, we would stop by every Wednesday after the weekly Comic store visit. Eventually we stopped going weekly...it was monthly, then quarterly, now for the past decade or so it's been once a year.
My brother and I went to our local one this past Saturday thinking it might be the final time. It was more crowded than I had seen it in years. I ended up getting quite a few cards...the store never really recovered since they did their redesign circa 1998...
If they mark everything down I will go pick up more cards, probably. They still had a bunch I left behind, always concious of spending money...they probably had another $150 worth of NHL and NBA...lots of baseball and football. As it was I went well over my monthly budget knowing it was probably going to be the last time and I would lose the opportunity if I didn't...and they had NHL blasters from before I started collecting the set, back to the 2010-11 season!
I am really, truly sad about this. We've already lost Jamesway, Ames, Kay-Bee, now TRU...all the places that made the memories that I still treasure from before my health went down the drain.
-------------------------------
VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. Grumpy oldish man, here.
Yes, Toys (backward) R Us evokes many memories for me, both as a child and as a parent. But the last few years, when I went to a store...whew, a vast wasteland of toys with no knowledgable help and kind of beat up, old looking stores. The little, privately owned toy store in my neighborhood, with great personal service, and specialty and run-of-the-mill toys alike, is way better. A bit more expensive, but infinitely better. Toys (backward) R Us had run through its useful life.
Still, Rest In Peace, Geoffrey.

Billy, you forgot Caldor. I'll never forget them. Their Albany store was where I bought out their 1984 Topps football. They were on clearance for, I think, $5.00 a box. I ended up with 4 complete sets.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Paid the local store a final visit and looked like a hurricane went through the card kiosk, nothing left. Pretty sad. I didn’t frequent the store as much as some others may have, but it will be missed.
