Welll done (even though you are a Tigers fan). My reference, Total Baseball; great history book and reference.

The Tigers have thrown 7 no-hitters and 0* Perfect Games in their franchise history. They have come very close on three different occasions to throw a perfect game. Name the three starters. Bonus points for Opponent and Year.

I know two of them, but do not know the third.

Just a wild guess: Fydrich, Morris, and Verlander

There's definitely one that I know for sure...and I think I know a second...but like obxyankeefan, do not know the third.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Sportzcommish those are incorrect. Verlander did have two starts where he lost no-hitters in the 9th. Two of those players were teammates of the three who were close to pitch perfect games.
Jack Webster is correct on one of them.

I remember Gallaraga's heartbreaker. I always felt that since it would have been a perfect game that Selig should have overturned the umpire's call, but...
I thought I remembered that one of Verlander's no-hitters included a walk in the 8th or 9th that was erased on a double play and he only faced the minimum 27 batters. Doesn't that count as close to a perfect game?
No idea on a third one, although I believe Virgil Trucks pitched 2 no-hitters for the Tigers in the same season- sometime in the 50's. Jack Morris pitched one in the 84 season and I'm pretty sure Jim Bunning pitched one. Add Verlander's two and that is 6 of the 7. I know Bunning did pitch a no-hitter in each league and I think the Tigers were the only AL team he played for. I know he pitched a perfect game but since the Tigers don't have one that must have been when he was with the Phillies.
This has been fun to think back, stretch the memory and try to recall "useless" information. Thanks!

In his 2nd No-Hitter he walked a batter in the 8th. The three occurences I'm asking for were broken up with 2 outs in the 9th.

Bunning pitched a perfect game on Father's Day, 1964, with the Phillies.I only know because it's mentioned every fathers day, every year.
