I'm not sure that the Gretzky card was a good investment. There are many of his cards still out there in collections in the back of the closet.  Eventually other Gretzky RC will find there way to a 10 Grade (for what it's worth).

If someone paid $600,000 for a "Greztky" rookie card, then they REALLY got ripped off :)

I find it sad that McDavid, Crosby, and a number of other players still playing rookie cards are worth more then the Lemieux rookie. Some of them even have book values close to Gretzky's.

That is part of the problem with todays card, UD short printing all the rookie cards and to get a susperstar rookie you have to either buy a number of packs and hope you get lucky or overpay for it at a show/auction.

Yes I do have a birthday once a month, why not feel the pain monthly instead of yearly, this way the depression is not all THAT bad when the actual date comes around!! ROFL. But sadly yes I'm creeping closer to the 50 every year. OMG

McDavid has a misfortune, where his career is over (or even mediocre), his card values bottom out. Nothing that happens to Gretzky himself could lower the value of his cards.  Why would you pay that $$ for an active player still so young?

Having a birthday every year sure beats the alternative...

Hype is the only answer David. Wayne has put him up so high himself since he works with the Oilers now. Even he says wait 6 to 8 years and the kid will be simply unstoppable. When that gets said about someone by THAT guy, his card prices soar. Do I agree, no. But do I like the fact I pulled his rookie out of a $7 pack and its worth $ 500 now, I don't mind one bit. LOL
