There is a parallel set to this English set that is Italian (there are probably other sets in other languages). Is it really a parallel as it was issued completely on its own (maybe the English / American one is the parallel)? As well, shouldn't the card names be in Italian?
I have a card froma 2009 set that is in French. I have the French checklist all made out in French. Do I enter it in French or do I copy the English version? This would not help a French person using this site. I also have a bunch of Japanese cards from another set.
Waiting for the advice of the more knowledgeable.

Follow the precedence set in the hockey section with the sets that came out in multiple languages (separate).
I would also expect us to use the language used on the cards. We've gone beyond needing to limit the names to "English-only" characters.

Ok, separate set but there are already three or four from different years marked as parallels. I assume only Admin can change that.

Yes, please alert Admin to the error of the entering of those sets.

When did the English only part get changed? I do not recall Admin stating that non-english versions were allowed now? Or am I missing something? We are to put the non-english spellings of names in the alias section. Admin told me english site english spellings. Unless of course non-sport has slightly different rules. Don't have a single non-sport listed.

I thought English-only. I can't do searches for non-English letters/characters since I only have an English keyboard.
I remember no long ago searching for a hockey player, by last name. I was unable to find him. I searched by first name and found him on the list. His PID last name had a diacritical mark that's why I couldn't find him directly.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

If we use the language on the cards, it will be challenging to make PID and TID associations. An example is the '77 Topps Mexican set where the Minnesota "Vikings" are "Vikingos". That doesn't even address the issue that C2C brought up about special characters that are not on most of our keyboards that are used by some languages (he used some big word I had to look up). Japanese Pokemon cards come to mind.

Yeah, didn't this come up a few years ago with a Scandinavian member entering hockey checklists asking about using umlauts and Admin said no?

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Years ago. Admin has made several changes to the database which now can use the foreign charatcers.
Names should still use English spelling for PIDs, but then the foreign spelling(s) can be used as Aliases (which then allows the sets to use either and will auto link).
In a set that won't get PIDs, why shouldn't the text in thw database be the same as it appears on the card?

I don't know, Dan. I just wanted to say umlaut in a sentence and sound real smart. I guess it didn't fool you!
