Shouldn't a set like this be called 1997, not 1986? We don't date Topps Heritage by the set they look like, but by the year they were produced. This is basically a Star Heritage set.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

They are marked "Star '86" and printed in 1985. Unless you are seeing a different set than I am.

I collect: Baseball, Football, Hockey, Mostly Vintage pre1980, My Homie teams - Washington/Baltimore Teams Senators (Twins, Rangers), Expos/Nationals, Redskins, Capitals, Bullets/Wizards - HOFers - Non-sport (mostly TV shows and movies). They follow the dating of the 1985-86 star sets, but, were produced illegally in 1997.
I personally feel they shouldn't be listed since (in my mind) it gives legitimacy to counterfeits. I'm waiting for the multi-color border 1984-85 Jordan 101's to start showing up on the site next. Admin and others seem okay with it, so here they are.

The other Star counterfeits are listed in 1997.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

This is a counterfeit set, Kirk. Printed in the 90s. I should have stated that.

Hphillips, you don't think they belong in the database but yet you look for their images on Ebay and go out of your way to upload them on the site?

You can't have it both ways man. :)

Same with uploading checklists incorrectly (1961-62 Bell Brand & the 1993-94 Purdue Women set I had to fix) and I can find numerous images you have pulled from other sites.
YOU can't have it both ways when you complain about other folks posting washed out scans when you do it as well ;)

I definitely think they should be listed as 1997 and notated that they were reprinted. And yes, "Star Heritage" sounds right. See, Star preceded Topps in doing "Heritage" or "Archives" cards as well as the foil printing! :)

I've never said I've never made a mistake on this site before (God knows admin has enough emails from me to verify that). I'm just saying you were on this counterfeit set like a shark on a chum line...

I'm not trying to start a war and I respect your collection...LSU, Maravich, Stockton...you kick butt as a collector IMHO. I have uploaded ebay scans but at least I've cropped them and tried to touch them up.
It would be like me saying "I hate Magic the Gathering" while I am uploading scans and creating checklists.
This Star counterfeit situation is and hopefully always will be unparalled because it features a once legitimate license holder who went to the dark side. I don't care if I have them all in my collection but I want the story documented for future collectors so that they will know their history before they spend their dollars. That is my motivation. I do not wish to establish value for the cards I own but I want others to be informed before they spend their dollars. Beckett will never validate their existence and hopefully no one will ever be duped by a shady Ebay seller because they can Google them on here. I only want knowledge for others. I want all future collectors to know that they are buying an illusion. End of story.

I had never thought of this in the way UKBoogie just described it. Before that, I had no strong opinion either way of whether these cards should be on here (I was only questioning the year), but his reasoning makes me think that they should be here for sure.
