...looking ahead to this Fall's Topps Update release, I was wondering what were people's thoughts about this upcoming set. Have you heard anything yet? What would you like to see in this set, or in future Topps or Topps Update sets?
I'd like to see Topps start including HOF inductee cards for each year's class in the update sets. I figure they can feature the former player standing near the podium and delivering his speech. The card back can feature the inductee's plaque along with career statistics and other interesting notes. Actually, I think Topps should have been doing this all along.
I'd also like to see each incoming/outgoing commissioner get a card. I think Rob Manfred should have received a card when he took over. Perhaps, Topps could make an insert set commemorating all of the baseball commissioners.
I'd definitely like to see the Manager cards come back. I think coaches should also be mentioned (if not pictured) on either the team card or on manager's card.
How about a team mascot insert set?

So far, the only things I really know about the set is that the release date is October 19 and that they scaled the set back to 300 cards this year. Seems to make sense. Only so much you can do. 400 was too many. I do like the all-star cards that they have in the sets every year.
I like the idea of the HOF card, although I can't see them going with a commissioner card. That would seem to be a slippery slope. Do you also include the head of the players union?
The Team mascot insert sets are in Opening Day every year I believe. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on that.
I'm also hoping they continue with the scaled back short prints for this release. I think 2014 Update had as many short prints as base cards and 2015 wasn't much better.

Always looking for baseball variation/error cards and anything Garrett Whitley or Ian Anderson

The commissioner has been on cards before as were league presidents. I think the HOF photos would probably be copywritten by Cooperstown and whichever company wanted to use them would have to pay the HOF so I don't see that happening.

I've been out of the loop for a while (1999). Are Topps Updates available in packs as well as complete sets?

...just packs since about 2008, but sellers are probably already offering complete hand collated sets, which is the way I typically go.

I like the update sets for the midseason trades first, and second for rookie callups that may not have been on a card since their first Bowman card several years prior. One change I would like is if they just continued the numbering of flagship Topps. Let's face it, Topps Update, in it's current format, is really just Topps Series 3. Why not number them as such? The T-1 to T-110 numbering of the Topps Traded box sets of old made sense, but this does not with the current format. That being said, I really do love Topps Update.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I don't see why you scale the set back this year...the rookie combos kinda is unfair to the players on, that they only get half of a rookie card. There are a lots of players that could fill up the other 90 spots. With Update Series, the weirder, the more I dig it. Bring on Cedric Hunters and David Loughs!

Robert “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped and summer was gone.” ― A. Bartlett Giamatti robertkimble.us/tradingcards
