2016 Topps Update Baseball Forum

Today's the day.  Hopefully, the Update sets are still tracking for a 10/19 release.  I've already pre-ordered my complete set.

I just ordered my Hobby Box.  Can't wait.  I'm looking forward to snagging a few hanger packs in the stores this week as well.  I hate that the checklist posted online is broken up between 'Traded' (not really), Rookies, All Star, Home Run Derby, Rookie Debut, Highlights, Veteran Combos, etc.  Still no managers and I don't like the shared rookie cards either.

If the shared rookie cards are of players from different teams--which they probably are--then I'd have to adgree with disliking those.  Since my sets are organized by team sets, mixed team cards typically remain in the back of my binders separately.  

I'm not understanding why managers are still not being considered important enough to be included as part of the team.  I guess Joe Maddon and Terry Francona didn't really have much effect on their teams' success (sarcasm).  Perhaps, in an effort to attract the youth, they don't want to include "old people" on their cards.  Either way, I agree that manager cards are an integral part of each team set.  I'd go as far as to say that the coach recognition should be included, or at least identified on the team card or something.

Regarless, I'm sure it'll be another fine Topps set.

I'm waiting for my Hobby box as well. It's set to arrive in about 20 hours. I'm a little excited as I haven't had an entire box to open in almost 15 years. I doubt I'll try to put a set together as I've tried in the past and end up not completing it. So, If anyone is building a set, check my trade/sell list in about a week, to see if there's anything you need.

I'll be buying packs at the store to get a start, then seeking trades to finish. With Topps out of the market for football this year, the winter will be spent hopefully making trades to fill my wantlist, rather than collecting a football set. My Topps run of football sets that started in 1969 (minus 3 years) comes to an end. The baseball sets that began in 1969 will continue next year.

I was just browsing this years football sets and thought "No Topps?!". Hockey and basketball seem to be gone as well.

That's so bizzare.

Ok, the first thing I'm going to do is rate the overall pull of my Hobby Box.

On a scale of 1-10, I give it a 4. Five points are automatically deducted because I got pinched. No autograph or relics card in my box. If it were a 1:36 ratio, I would understand, but it states on the box, "One Autograph Or One Relic Card In Every Box".

Overall, I did manage to get a complete set, except some of those have already been promised to someone else.

What a Ripoff, Analogkid.  Did you contact Topps about it?

I may just drive to Walmart now and see if they have any yet.  It's only a couple blocks away, so not too inconvenient late at night.  I'm in the mood to open some cards!
