1989 Topps Baseball Forum

Hi, 

I recently got a bunch of unopened packs of 1989 Topps and I'm now sorting the cards and noticed these odd mis-cuts on just the backs of six cards.

A few of the ones I have line up with each other, and the fronts are completely normal.

Rather common.  During the Junk Wax years they were pumping out cards so fast Quality Control was almost non-existent.  To collectors who like the oddball printing errors, worth less than a perfect card. To most collectors; worthless.  I usually ended up throwing them in the trash.

They'd make good "display" cards, where only the front of the card is shown. Like on a plaque or in a framed piece.

 I have sold miscuts on EBAY but not for much.  But there are a few buyers out there.

Some die-hard player or team collectors might buy them for the novelty factor, but I agree that generally speaking they don't add any value.

I agree that they don't add value.  I just like to see the cards get into the hands of those specific collectors.   I don't want to just toss them but I certainly don't want to hold to them either.

On that note, if anyone has any super hero cards that are miscut, I'll be happy to buy them from you. 

Never had a super-hero miscut, only sports and all of those were pre-1990.   I had hockey blank backs from the 1980's which I sold.

I received a '71 Topps Duane Thomas card this past Christmas and just glanced at it in the midst of other cards and all the activity at the time. When I got down to sorting through those in March I noticed it was miscut through the position line. The online dealer graciously gave me credit for it. I am not one to desire such a card if it's miscut on the front, but I think I'd accept one if it only affected the back, in some cases.

I gave my miscuts to BOBSCARDZ.  He likes those types.
