2017 Topps Baseball Forum

It's that time of year again.  As we enter the final month of 2016, thoughts of next year's card sets and our collecting goals come to mind.  What are your 2017 card collecting goals?

1st Priority (most likely to accomplish)

2017 Topps Factory and Update sets

1968 Topps Set (missing #177 and 490)

1962 Topps Set (missing #750, 772, 792, 794)

2nd Priority (will probably get close)

2011 Topps Update Mike Trout RC (only missing card after 1968)

1967 Topps Set (missing 67 cards)

1966 Topps Set (missing 50 cards)

1951 Topps Set (missing 16 cards)

3rd Priority (lets see what happens)

1960 Topps Set (missing 74 cards)

1955 Topps Set (missing 35 cards)

1954 Topps Set (missing H.Aaron, E.Banks, A.Kaline)

1950 Bowman Set (missing J.Robinson)

Mine is to break out my hockey, baseball and football from one album to an album for each year on my website, so it matches the set up I have for the NBA and NASCAR. I can probably get it done in one day if I put the effort into it, I just have more important/interesting things to do.(like scan cards, which I give priority to)

My goal is to make as many trades as possible and get the rest of my wants and haves loaded into the site.

My goal as far as this site goes is to have my set collection and my individual player collection up to date so that I am not listing a card for sale or trade in one collection when I need it for the other (I have started doing this and have found doubles of 5-8 cards per player that I needed the card in the set).  I know why this is but it is time consuming to get done.  Once done, my HoF and star players doubles will be up for trade.  In doing this, I hope to increase each of my individual player collections through trades.

As for my setcollection, I will continue trying to complete my OPC sets.  Some are close but some are a distant wish.  Good thing I have a lifetime to do this in.  I will also try to complete as many other sets that I can, especially those that are close to compeltion.

And lastly, Hopefully I will continue to make trades on this site with all of you and therefore see my pile of 400,000+ cards diminish in size.  This year was a good year with over 5,000 cards sent out for cards that I did not have in my own collection.

My goal is to settle on a way to keep my collection organized, and stick with it. I think I'll reserve albums for wrestling and baseball, limit which baseball will go into albums, and alphabetize everything. I like a bit of chaos, but my collection is too disorganized. I also intend to have my entire collection entered into this site by the first day of spring. (Yeah right)

As far as adding to my collection, I have no real, tangible goals. Although I want to build my Paul George collection a little, and try to get back some of the more common Reggie Miller cards I used to have. And pick up some Cardinals here and there. But nothing really specific. Maybe get back into trading on here. I've received a couple offers this week that I need to reply to!

Lastly, and most importantly, I want to convince the CEO where I work to sponsor a team set for one of the area lower-league sports teams. None of the teams I frequent have ever had a card set. (I hope he reads this...he's a site member too!)

I have a few goals.

1st: Get all my doubles and the football and basketball cards put into my trade list.

2nd: catch up on 2012 -2017 Topps, Update and opening day sets.

3rd.: Work on getting cards on my wantlist.

And Roundthediamond I can help you with the Trout RC.

Hopefully upload my collection while trading my doubles and working on sets in my pc right now and work on adding more to my want list 

If and when Admin comes through with the ability to have multiple collections, I plan to enter in the remainder of my collection (and scan stuff as well). I don't expect to complete that effort in 2017, but at least get a start on it. If it turns out that multiple collections are not an option, I may have to resort to starting a new account for tracking my Phillies collection and my HOF collection (they don't intersect as I put priority on Phillies, then HOF - for example, you won't find any Schmidt cards in the HOF collection, they'll all be in the Phillies collection). This will also give me the opportunity to have a much more expanded wantlists.

That's all I'm going to shoot for this year as I still didn't get to everything I wanted for 2016.

As for a site goal, I'd love to see the Name validation numbers go to what we did for the Glossary (put it in maintenance mode!). Then figure out the next one. :)

-complete 1970 and 1971 Topps baseball-likely 

-get 2017 complete Topps set-definite

-get 2017 complete, non-short print Topps Gypsy Queen set-definite

-try to get as many of the 5 tobacco cards I'm missing from my Merkle's Boner collection. 

-some other semi-random old cards-a 30s Durocher, a 40s Boudreau. 

-significant progress on 1968 and 1969 Topps baseball. 

-some other random fun. 

-oh, and maybe a Mecca double folder   and a T207-unlikely

Work on these insert sets:

• Ichiro Chasing 3K Hits from 2016 Topps and Update
• 2016 Topps Bunt Program

I don't know if I will open any boxes of 2017 Topps but I will at least buy the complete set at the end of the year. 

Redesign my blog and add scans to my completed sets section.
