In a recent thread, there was some discussion about what people considered to be a complete set. Although I support every individual's decision to determine what they consider to be a complete set for them, I've long considered Traded/Update sets to be a part of the overall base set. While researching the upcoming Update set, I noticed this same issue being addressed on one of Beckett's blogs at:
http://www.beckett.com/news/2017-topps-update-series-baseball/
which says: "The 2017 Topps Update Series base set has 300 cards. Although numbered separately from Series 1 and Series 2, when taken as a whole, it brings the line up to 1,000 cards for the year".
Although I will be purchasing the 2017 Topps Update set this year to complete my set for the year, I'm not looking forward to seeing more incomplete statistics on the back. Maybe they've already fixed that, but I won't count on it.
Is anyone else going to be working on this set in a couple weeks?

I will be doing it again this year. I've always been fonder of the update / traded sets than most people are dating back to my youth. Not sure why.

I might just skip it. I’m getting burnt out from the design. After getting some of the base set, opening day, dbacks team set, series 2, and chrome, I want to see something different. I may be done with baseball cards this season. Onward to the NBA releases.

Sahal makes a very good point. So many cards with that design already out there, and I didn't like it from the moment I saw it on a sell sheet. And if you factor in WWE, that's even more cards with that design. (Series 2 WWE coming soon too). I'll probably buy a $10 hanger pack of update baseball and quit with that.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I will be collecting it. I have always considered the update a part of the Series 1 & 2 set. I wish the numbers continued from where they left off in series 2, and I also dislike the partial stats. Other than that, have been collecting Topps sets since 1969 and will comtinue until, who knows? Was hugely disappointed when they stopped Topps football, as I had consecutive sets since 1969 in that also (with exception of partial sets in 70, 71, & 72).

I didn't view the updates and traded sets as part of the full set in the past. I think the XRC label that was given to rookie cards in the 80's dissuaded me. That changed in 2015 when i collected and completed my first update set. Now I'm going back and getting the traded and update sets and it has been great fun. I agree with the comments about the 2017 set. Hoping 2018 will return with complete stats and maybe manager cards again. The leader cards in the 2017 set were seemingly incomplete and haphazard.
Debating on buying a full set for $27 from justcommons. But I love ripping packs too much and I will probably spend $70 on a Hobby box.

I won’t be going for this, but I will be trying to complete the Heritage Minor League Set.

I will only be chasing the PHILLIES but I do have the first two series complete.
21 SP cards to complete the 2017 Heritage set.
@kaline6 I started in the summer of 1964 and have moved them cards about 8 times. stored them in cheese boxes 5lb white american cheese by deitz and watson I think

Robert “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped and summer was gone.” ― A. Bartlett Giamatti robertkimble.us/tradingcards

The price on the full set seems reasonable. I'll probably do that versus a hobby box as I don't really like the design this year.

Will definitely be getting a hobby box and then adding packs from Wal-Mart and Target. As I said in the earlier thread, I consider this series 3 with weird numbers. And will definitely be willing to trade when that time arrives!!!!!
