With this product coming out next week, I was wondering if anyone has answers to the following questions:
What is the difference between a Retail pack and a Hobby pack? Is there a better pull rate for the Autos, GU, SSP inserts, and variations in the hobby? If so how much better?
With Toys R Us apparently going into bankruptcy, is there going to be a Purple parallel set this year?

The retail packs are only available at retail outlets, such as Target and WalMart. The Hobby packs will only be available at card stores. The "hit" rates are typically better in hobby packs/boxes, but they are priced higher to compensate for that. Exactly how much better is hard to tell without seeing the actual pack odds yet, which you won't see until next week. Typically a box of hobby will net you at least one auto or GU, whereas you have no such guaruntee is made for retail, and you'd usually need to buy two boxes to get one auto or GU, but if you pick the wrong two boxes you could get none (or two).
The Purple Toys R Us parallels are typically not in the Opening Day release, that's usually in Series 1, 2, and Update.

My bad on the Purple. I do know that there is no mention of it in the information that Topps has provided for the 2018 release, so my guess is that it is done.

Just saw that Toys R Us hasn't been paying its suppliers, so for Topps sake, hopeuflly they didn't send them any shipments. Although if topps did send them and Toys R Us does go bankrupt, there may be some deals on boxes there. Assuming they created the Purple Parallel like they have since 2013, the cases have to go somewhere. If not Toys R Us, Walmart maybe?

ToysRus have nothing. A couple weeks ago, they announced they were closing and everything was 30% off. Except when you get there, it was "sportscards, Legos, diapers" and a lot of other things were excluded. They had some cards but they were already 30% higher than Target. Nothing from 2018. I went back this week, for the 50% deals, no cards at all. But I did get a large Panini basketball display card for nothing. I have no idea what I am going to do with it as it is too large to send by mail. If I ever run into Billy, it's his. It's 10" by 4' high.

Not to make this a Toys R Us thread, but I was going to go to my closest one and see if they had cards left. Its down the street from a card shop so if they do, I'd bet most the good stuff is gone. It would also be fun to look around the store one last time, but not sure if its worth a special trip. Though I should visit that card shop.
As for Opening Day cards, I might buy some, I only bought 1-2 packs last year and didn't buy any Topps flagship cards so I have a little itch for new cards.

2/17/18: I bought 2 hobby boxes note Relics and autos will be the hardest to pull unless you but a 1,000 cases example a Mascot Auto Relic is 1: 93,600 packs. I had no hits in the relics or auto sections; just food for thought.

Unlike most releases, I don't believe there are odds differences between hobby and retail boxes of Opening Day. I think they are the exact same boxes.
Unrelated, I pulled Signature Series Auto (1:21k+ packs) out of a Target blaster yesterday. Probably not the most valuable pull I've ever had, but maybe the longest odds.
