For those interested, the complete Coupon Cigarettes (T213) checklist has been uploaded. This was a difficult checklist to compile and is the result of several weeks of research. A shout out to V3 for doing much of the "heavy lifting" in researching and verifying names and teams. Also thanks to all the guys at Net54baseball.com for their valuable insight into this rare and difficult set. Also, thanks to the folks at Baseball Reference for maintaining such an excellent database.
I've done my best to verify all the names and teams but there is still some work to be done on this set. There are several teams that don't have TIDs in the database. I'm not an expert at adding TIDs so I will leave that to some of the more experienced database editors.
The teams that need TIDs are:
In addition to missing TIDs, there are also several players that don't have teams listed (all Type 3 cards). Either the card does not list the team or I couldn't find an example of the card to verify the team. For cards that don't have a team listed, I was hesitant to add a team because I'm unsure if we should list the team of the uniform that the player is wearing in the image or the team that they played for during the 1919 season. The Frank Chance is a great example. He is shown in a Cubs uniform but his last year as a Cub was 1912. After that he played for the Yankees in '13-14 and Angels in '16-17. This card is was distributed in 1919.
I've also found some potential errors in teams that are listed on the card that I have been unable to confirm that a player played for:
I have also intentionally ommitted a rare variation of the Type 3 cards in this set. The variation is know as a "Factory 8 Overprint". The exact number of these variations is not known and they are fairly hard to find and command a premium price. I do know of several that exist and I have images for some of them. I chose to leave them out because of their rarity. I did describe them in the release notes though.
Speaking of images, I added some examples. I don't own any of these cards and probably never will. All the images I've uploaded come from the "digital commons" and are not copyrighted (thank you Burdick). I know that some members think it is "stealing" to upload images of cards you don't own. I have a different opinion. This is a difficult set to understand without looking at images. If you don't like an image that I've uploaded feel free to purchase one of these cards and replace my image. My feelings won't be hurt at all.
My two-cents is worth slightly more than a penny.
