1989 Topps Football Forum

This has probably been discussed somewhere before, but the Team Leaders cards in the 1980's Topps football sets - how the heck are they supposed to be listed here?  I've seen them listed probably a half a dozen ways (sometimes 4 or 5 different ways in the same set).  I don't really care which is correct; I'd just like to get them consistent.

Based the database rules however, I think that the card should be titled:

"Montana on the Run"

The "TL" in the note field designates it as a team leader card. Why should Team Leaders be in the name if not listed on the front of the card?

If a player is listed on the front of the card you put the player's name in the Name field.  Any other descriptors can be put in Note2.  They used to have the names in the Name field but someone changed them all.  So, the 49ers card in cnangle's example should be "Joe Montana" in the Name field because Montana is listed on the front of the card.

They should be listed as it is printed onthe front of the card. Best way is:

Name = "19## [stat category] Leaders (John Doe1 / John Doe2)"

and then link the PIDs for the players. But Admin has stated that the idea is to match what's on the card as much as possible. If the names are on the front, the method displayed is good. If the names are nnot onthe front, but are known, it can be formatted the same way.
