This set truly holds a special place in my memory. I had only just started collecting baseball cards 30 years ago this year (in 1987), when a family friends showed me this then 25 year old set in a binder with pages. These were the first vintage cards I had ever seen at the time, being familar only with the Topps designs from 1984-1987. I soon after noticed the 'Turn Back the Clock' subset of the 1987 Topps set, which featured a throwback 1962 Topps card of Maury Wills. I probably didn't discover that Maury Wills never actually had a '62T card until many years later.
The 1962 Topps set was the first set to feature the expansion franchises of the Houston Astros (Colt .45's) and the New York Mets. It was also the first Topps baseball set to feature mult-player rookie cards. The 598-card set was the largest Topps set release at that point, and was made available in 7 different series with the higher series being tougher to find these days. Wax packs could be purchased for $0.01 (1 card) or for $0.05 (5 cards). Cello packs were also available for $0.10 (10 cards).
One of the coolest subsets from the '62T set to me is the 10-card Babe Ruth Special subset, which helped to commemorate Roger Maris breaking the single-season HR record the previous year. With only 2 high-number cards missing to complete this set (#571,#594), I hope to finish this one of before the end of the year.
