Here is another for the super slueths out there, is this card a Montreal Canadiens card or a Calgary Flames card?! The back mentions both, and the jersey is pretty non descipt, and the helmet ......... well!! I am thinking its the Flames and my pathetic reasoning is this ...... he was never traded TO the Canadiens so the likelyhood of him ever wearing a blank helmet for them was slim. Using the "unofficial" nhluniforms.com and looking at old jerseys neither teams jersey looks like the one he is wearing. Calgary has yellow/white around the neck and Habs have blue/white. Have fun with this one I know I am. =P

If someone could do a quick google search of Rick and look at the images section could you please confirm for me that this is in fact a Calgary Flames card. The reason is the cage on his mask on this card appears to be yellow/gold looking and that is definitely his Calgary helemet and any close ups of the Montreal away jersey in any of his images are for sure not the same as on this hockey card. Thanks a bunch.

~Rob~ Hockey set collector including inserts, ERR, COR, VAR. Knowledgeable about 1968-69 to 1994-95 hockey. All 1990 and newer cards for trade are NRMT. Expect the same in return. 1989 and older are assigned a grade. Everything on my trade list is available for sale. Reasonable prices based on condition. If it's not on my tradelist, it's not available.

According to TCDB rules, team ID is not based on what is pictured but what is stated on the card. Ranfordfan, here's my text from a message reply I sent you in June 2015:.
"...no teams were printed on the front or back. Teams were only mentioned in the bio text. In this case you have to rely on the subject of the card (not all the teams mentioned in the text). If the subject is the past or present season, then use the team they played with that season. The subject of "First Round Picks" is a specific team's first round pick, so that's the team associated with the card. Career cards (usually printed after a player has retired) encompass a player's entire career and should be associated with all NHL teams they played for. As you saw there were some "Record Holder" cards, the ones for "Most Career..." are treated like a career card. There were some records that spanned multiple years and teams, so I include all teams played for during that span."
Just keep in mind, "What does the card represent?" In the case of card #154 Rick Wamsley, the card subject is "Decades/1980s". So, I would include the teams he played for during that decade (the Canadiens, Blues, & Flames).

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Ok so I am kind of lost by all that ...... just being honest. So the all these cards like this in ITG sets should list multiple teams if need be? The Wamsley card should have all three teams listed??

I don't put teams on cards that neither designate a team, nor picture a team. In my view, that Wamsley card is not a Habs card, not a Blues card, not a Flames card, not a Nova Scotia Voyageurs card, not a Team Canada card. It's just a non-specific Rick Wamsley card. When I come across cards like this when doing Team Validation, I just leave them blank. I don't delete teams if someone else added one, but I don't add a team if it doesn't depict a team. A couple years ago, there was a Goodwin Champions card of Kasey Keller (retired soccer player) in street clothes, sitting on his front porch, petting his dog. No team is listed. I won't put that card with Portland Timbers, Milwall, Leicester City, Rayo Vallecano, Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton, Borussia Monchengladbach, Fulham, Seattle Sounders, and the U.S. Men's National Team, just because he played for all those teams during his career. I leave it blank. That is my opinion on cards like this.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I see your point switzr for sure, makes more sense to leave it blank. Sometimes I just think that since there is a spot for information it should have some. With this set alone there are about 100 cards that meet that criteria (more or less) that is what is making these ITG sets nearly impossible to figure out. Again I call for a TCDB conference to be held somewhere anywhere so we can all meet and make a TCDB for Dummies Manual ..... I could be the Frozen Tundra Rep from just south of the North Pole ............ =) BTW, I just found a bunch of 2006-07 ITG stuff in the office here that I gave up on for pretty much the same reason.

To me, if you're having to do extensive research to see the color of masks a goalie wore on different teams, if it's that hard to arrive at a team, and even after doing so you're not 100% sure,it's not a card of that team. And if no team is named or depicted, and you put one anyway, that's no different than adding card numbers to NNO sets in my mind. I don't mean you specifically, Ranford; I mean any member. We don't add numbers to unnumbered cards, just because there's a place for a number. I don't think we should do it with teams either. Again, that's just one opinion, and I don't expect everyone to agree with it.

No hard feelings bud. =) The reason the ITG cards are so hard to determine is that they are a non-licenced company. They can show anything but NHL logos and team names ..... so the reason I was refering to the color of his mask was that the logo for the Flames had to be air brushed off to keep in line with thier legal obligations. Any other card company and the logo would be there. But yeah I do not normally go that hard core into the research but with these ITG sets it seems that you have to. Heck even the checklists that are complete on their website only show the city name, not the team name!!
