Team Penske Forum

I have to put this out there b/c it is driving me nuts. This only relates to the NASCAR Penske teams!!! "Team Penske" ONLY exists as a NASCAR team for cards from 2014 to present. I keep seeing cards from the 1990's and 2000's listed as Team Penske. "Penske Racing South" is the team that should be listed for every driver that was a current driver the year the card was made from 1991-2013. The only exceptions to that would be:

#1. "Penske-Kranefuss Racing" for driver Jeremy Mayfield from 1998 to 2000. That TID request has been sent to Admin by me b/c it doesn't exist yet. The team was Kranefuss-Haas from 1994-97 before Penske bought-in to replace Haas and Penske bought out Kranefuss midway through the 2000 season.

#2. "Penske-Jasper Racing" (which has a TID already) for ONLY Brendan Gaughan in 2004 and Travis Kvapil in 2005.

I have been working on fixing the incorrect listings but there are just SO MANY! Also, the team was "Penske Racing" from it's founding in 1966. That doesn't apply to many NASCAR cards, but many racing cards for other series. I have requested a TID for that name too. If anyone knows something I don't about all of this, PLZ LMK.

Penske Racing South ended at the conclusion of 2003 when Roger Penske bought out Rusty Wallace and Don Miller (and outright bought Doug Bawel's Jasper Motorsports). Penske Racing and Team Penske should be interchangeable.

That's not the info on Wikipedia OR Team Penske's official website. On top of that, Penske Racing South is listed as the licensing agent for all Penske drivers well after 2003. The Team Penske website says he bought out Jasper after the 2005 season.

That's when they closed the #77 team for the first time. Penske was the controlling owner as of Talladega-2 in 2003. The Jasper team was my second favorite, after Morgan-McClure Motorsports. Not sure why, it just was...I was not happy when Penske bought it and closed it (eventually). I could be wrong on when Wallace and Miller were bought out. I know when they were bought out is when they switched to Penske Racing instead of Penske Racing South but the memory is not what it once was....
