Patches!

by Billy Kingsley - 103 cards (Last updated on Feb 25, 2020)

1. 2003-04 SP Game Used - Authentic Patches #EB-P Elton Brand

One of the favorite patches in my collection. I layed this card over my actual wearing jersey (not game worn, I wear it) and I determined this is from the L in Clippers.

2. 2003-04 SP Game Used - Authentic Patches #MC-P Antonio McDyess

I got this one the same day as I got the Elton that leads off the album, both a singles, if my memory is working.

The patch is from his Nuggets jersey.

3. 2004-05 Fleer Throwbacks - Hardwood Classics Jerseys Autographs 1 #HCA-DW Dorell Wright

1 of 1! I pulled this, the 6th and final (to date) 1/1 I pulled or purchased.

4. 2004-05 Hoops Hot Prospects - Draft Rewind Patches Red Hot #DR/PG Pau Gasol

1 of 5! I traded for this one. I remember with who but not what I traded. It may have even been a cash for card trade.

5. 2004-05 Hoops Hot Prospects #84 J.R. Smith

I believe this is from the bottom of the O in Hornets.

6. 2001-02 Flair - Hot Numbers #NNO Richard Hamilton

This was one of the first sets to denote patch status.

7. 2001-02 Fleer Marquee - We're Number One Memorabilia #NNO Elton Brand

That little bit of red on the bottom right makes this a patch. I pulled this one. Patch status is not noted on card.

This card is also die cut in the shape of a large 1.

8. 2002-03 Fleer Platinum - Nameplates #N-PP Paul Pierce

Name Plates concept was fun. They looked like license plates, and all the patches came from the last name on the back of the jersey.

9. 2002-03 Fleer Platinum - Nameplates #N-KG Kevin Garnett

I didn't realize teams used sparkly stuff on jerseys until I pulled patch cards of the T-Wolves, Nets and Rockets. The latter two have not been scanned yet.

10. 2003-04 Flair - Wave of the Future Patches #WOFP-LR Luke Ridnour

The little cardboard piece on the bottom of the opening came out of the pack bent (I pulled this one)

Impressive collection there Billy. Did you pull many of those from packs?

Hi Switzr, I just saw your comment now. I would say that roughly 75% to 80% of these were indeed pulled by me. I also purchased some as singles, traded for one or two and even won one of them as a giveaway! I usually am making note of where I got them, but sometimes I don't actually remember. I was bringing in over 1000 new cards a month during the peak of my collecting in 2002-04, when most of these were added to my collection, and I just don't remember on many of them.

I like that Gasol game worn jersey patch, good pick-up there.

I go for the 'PRIME' patches myself...just because they are more colorful!

Great collection of memorabilia - nice variety - gotta love those monochrome "patches" :)

That Shaquille O'Neal patch looks like it hits "right between the numbers", as in the 3 & 4.  Turned sideways, the two-color piece is part of the 3's upper curve & the small piece is the 4's left-most point.

Just saw the comments I got years ago...major facepalm on my part! Thank you all Joey, Ray and SaintOrm!

You might be right on the Shaq, certainly better than I've come up with.

I think hockey cards have the best patches.

Thanks! I'm still kind of amazed that I was able to pull that one. Certainly my best so far.
