Cards I got signed, with storyby vrooomed - 64 cards (Last updated on Dec 22, 2017) |
An additional autograph story: In 1990, during Spring Training, I asked Juan Samuel and Mike Scioscia to each sign a baseball for me. The balls had been used for batting practice and had actually been hit out of the park. My dad and I had picked up about 20-25 balls and we were giving them out to kids so they could use them for autographs too. Got to tell Juan Samuel how much we missed him being a Phillie. I got Scioscia's autograph because he's from near Philadelphia.

35. 1988 ProCards #NNO Don DeMuth
National Card Convention, Atlantic City, NJ, July, 1988. Don had an "in" with ProCards and had a card made up specifically for him to give out as a business card. Since I just can't resist an autograph, I asked him to sign the card. He got as big a grin then as he has on the card itself. I don't remember if I bought anything from him that day, but he was very pleasant to us two late teen/early adults (Swami Lee & I). Actual card |
36. 1990 Score #623 Pat Combs
Spring Training, Clearwater, FL, March, 1990. After a work stoppage that caused a delayed and shortened Spring Training, we heard that there were going to be a few intra-squad games before games with other teams would start. I actually got this, and the other Combs cards from this year, signed in the middle of the game. He was scheduled to only pitch one inning, and did so. As he was heading to the clubhouse, he stopped to sign for several people. This was the first card I had Pat sign, as it was my favorite of his. After he signed for everyone else, I chatted with him about his experience at the Olympics and other baseball related topics. I also asked if he would sign the other cards I had of him (just one of each) and a NL ball. I have a ball and card holder that the Score and the ball are in. Also of note, as he was signing, he apologized for his hand still shaking from having just pitched. Actual card |

40. 1990 Upper Deck #418 Darren Daulton
Spring Training, Clearwater, FL, March, 1990. After a work stoppage that caused a delayed and shortened Spring Training, we heard that there were going to be a few intra-squad games before games with other teams would start. After the game, several of the players generously signed for the fans that remained. Very glad Darren was one of the players I got that day. (I had some assistance from 2 other people getting the autographs after the game, so I don't know which one of us actually got his.) Actual card |

Those are cool cards with awesome storys, I wish I had some autos
This inspires me to make a list of my signed cards, but will have to be delayed as I’m still adding cards to my collection.
Dan, you're the greatest! (Who am I to call Morena Corwin a liar?)
David - LOL! Glad to see you looked at my list. This is one that will continue to grow and get the actual cards uploaded. It's a small part of my collection, but the fact that I have stories behind each one is what makes it so special. I honestly get the autographs for the story behind it rather than for any monetary value (else I never would have asked 75% of the players/people I have). And, heck, Morena is right. :)
I went to high school (Lawrence, Kansas) with Steve Jeltz. I hope he became a nicer person as an adult. In high school he was a first class jerk.
Great stories, looking forward in checking out this list in the future.
AA Eastern League is where I get most of my autographs, only tried to get one Reading Phil though, and that was Preston Claiborne, see my Rejected! list to see how that turned out.
Your story of the Municipal Stadium, Reading, PA, June 29 or July 12, 1985. Me & my dad would go to the Albany-Colonie Yankees games. I'd buy three of the four seats in a box for $18. Nobody ever bought the fourth seat, so we'd have the whole box to ourselves.
Chuck, reason I know it's one of those 2 dates, I had actually saved my ticket stubs. These box seats were $3 each! And same, we almost always had a seat next to us empty. Hope everyone enjoys this as much as I do. I am having a blast (from the past) going through my cards. I didn't realize I had so many cards signed! (I still have more to go!)
I’m realizing the same thing as I’m sorting through them.
I'll have to check out Swami's shop sometime. I'm right in Mt. Laurel. Funny, I remember as a kid going to some auto dealership on 130 to see Larry Bowa and got a signed picture. |
