March 2018 Non-sport Acquisitionsby cnangle - 38 cards (Last updated on Mar 31, 2018) |
3/17 update: This has been a month of coffee cards. I think that's all that I've bought this month. My wife and I did some antique hunting near Rochester, MN today. She found a lot of vintage books. I only found four trade cards...all coffee cards.
This is will be my third month of actively buying vintage non-sport. I'm finding that I am drawn towards trade cards more than tobacco issues. They are generally a little cheaper and the subject matter is a little broader.
11. 1895 J&P Coats Uniforms of the US Army (H606) #NNO 1888-1893 Overcoats
One of my favorite cards from this series. I like the overcoats. |
13. 1889 Duke's Cigarettes Postage Stamps (N85) #NNO Country Post Office
I ran across a group of these in an antique store in South Dakota. It was totally unexpected and a pleasant surprise. These are my first Duke cards. |
14. 1889 Duke's Cigarettes Postage Stamps (N85) #NNO Last Round
Everyone of the cards in this series is a 1 of 1. Each card has an actual cancelled postage stamp affixed to it. |
15. 1889 Duke's Cigarettes Postage Stamps (N85) #NNO N.Y. Post Office
I wonder if any of the stamps used in this series have any actual value to stamp collectors. |
16. 1889 Duke's Cigarettes Postage Stamps (N85) #NNO Pony Express
My favorite card in this series. I love the cow skull. |
19. 1904 Church & Co. Game Bird Series (J3) #28 Sage Grouse
I keep finding soda cards. I've completed several of these series in my three short months of collecting. I like them because they are easy to find and they are relatively cheap for cards 100+ years old. |

Yeah, I don't get the joke on the Arbuckle card either. But the Columbus cards are beauties. Especially the Salamanca one. Nice pick-ups.
I'm also not finding the satire card very funny. Maybe they were more easily amused back then? I like the back much better- I enjoy seeing old buildings, which probably weren't that old back then!
I like the musician card, mainly because of the unusual stringed instrument she is playing.
Wow. Great list. The Columbus cards are amazing.
I'm also really liking the Columbus cards. I'm still trying to figure out where my interest lies in regards to 19th tobacco and trade cards, but this Columbus series is on my short-list of sets to complete. |
