The Iconic Baseball Card Listby Joeyd011 - 48 cards (Last updated on Nov 3, 2017) |
This is a list of what I consider to be the most iconic cards in my collection. Even as an adult, there is still an aura about these cards that has never faded.

Great list. I loved looking through it and was very pleased to see some of the cards you chose. I'm not sure what I'd add from my collection. Lou Brock rookie, probably. Some Ernie Banks smiles. But you pretty much nailed it. Nice work.

I saw your list dude, and you have some serious cards there. Base stealing is a lost art, and Lou Brock is one I need to eventually have for my collection. Ernie Banks, his cards are great too. A dealer wanted to sell me his rookie for only $150 recently. The person who sold it to him said their basement flooded, and the card was slightly damaged. It had a water stain on about half the card, so I had to pass despite the cheap price. Thanks for checking out my list.

Yeah, well I'd love to have cards 1,2,5,6 and 8 on your list. The 1969 Mantle and the 1971 Ryan are way up high on my want list.

Very nice list Joey. Your collection must be similar to mine, leaning towards the older cards of the 60s and 70s. I collect everything but much rather get one 1950s or 60s card than 100 1990s or 2000s cards. Back in the day, the cards were about the players not how shiny they could be. In your collection, all the cards you chose are exactly that - about the player.

I just noticed that the database shows how many of the cards I have from your list - 28 of them. Like I said similar collections.

Yeah, I'm starting to focus more on the vintage cards from the 60's and 70's right now, and 50's if I can find them at a reasonable price. Have you done a list of some of your key cards? I'd like to check it out. As far as modern cards, I'll collect the key rookies, but only from the base set. There are so many variations out there, it's far beyond ridiculous. Autograph cards are way out of hand, refractors, what color the borders are, what jersey the player is wearing on the card, what angle the player is pitching or batting from. Literally dozens and dozens of card variations within the same year and brand, just ridiculous. I could rant about that for days. Thanks for checking out the list sandyrusty.

That was an excellent rant. I buy the Topps base set every year. That's it. And now I'm fortunate to be forced to focus on vintage cards after that, since I've got all the Topps from 1972 on. I'm loving just trying to pick up cards from the 60's and 59's. Expensive, though.

Right now I only entered the individual cards that I do have (other than the 1954 Topps set which I have just over 50% complete). I only started this database a month ago and right now I am trying to contribute to it for the right to use it. I have entered several checklists and am linking the team names to all of the cards in my collection. If I had a scanner, I would be more tempted to make a list that I could picture my cards. Maybe at a later date.
Vvvergeer - I am trying to complete the sets but don't have near as many complete as you do. But I do have many in the 50s and 60s well started. Up to and including 1980, I have the cards in binders so I can look at the regularly. The newer stuff goes in boxes.

Love #11 1971 Topps #5 Thurman Munson and it is correctly labeled as iconic. He's my favorite catcher of all time and the card you chose is truly a classic. |
