Whoa Topps! What's that? Color photo of...the stadium on the back. Getting there on the design, but the 1992 set is essentially what O Pee Chee had been for decades. Too bad Canseco turned into such an ego maniac later in life. These were the last packs I bought in stores as a kid since I went to college shortly after this.

Embarrassing that even a couple of years after Upper Deck, Topps still is using cardboard backs. For their 40th Anniversary, they produced a relatively disappointing set. Can't believe it took Topps this long to honor Mattingly with this card. He was one of the best hitters of the 1980's.

After falling in love with cards and trading, I really disliked this set design. I did not like the checkerboard on the back nor the purple borders or borders that didn't even come close to matching the team colors. A shame that Will Clark was chosen for #100 and they nearly ruined the card with purple. Maybe this was the first year Topps got a computer and played with graphic designs that came preloaded with it.

This set will always have a place in my heart because this is when I really started collecting in full swing. With 100 million other kids in the world. My dad couldn't resist putting a pack or two into the grocery bag each time he went to the store. He loved opening them as much as I did.

I didn't like the orange back very much on these cards, but I didn't mind the simple front design. I thought it was a bit retro or recycling of an older design. I did like Jack Clark though as a player.

Obvious homage to the 1962 design. It was a fun set to collect. I still like the '62 set better. I didn't like Garvey much, but I don't know why. He had such a clean cut, good guy image. And he was a darn good and durable player.

The Ryan Express was in the twilight of his career, yet he was still going strong. He reminds me of Clint Eastwood in this card. The '86 set was difficult to keep in good condition with the black border on top.

I really didn't like the Christmas colors on the back of the '85 cards. The red text was hard to read at times, especially when looking for the league leader italics. Good timing to honor Brett with this card as the Royals went on to win the WS that year.

Another example of Topps using a pair of designs with the dual photos in 1983 and 84. This version is obviously more angled than its previous version. I do like the logo in the corner on the back. I don't like the airbrush solid color background of the inset photo. Nice classic Reggie swing in the days when he was a secret hit man in the Naked Gun movie.

Back to back Fightin Phillies for card #100. I really liked this design when I was a kid. It seems perfectly balanced. I also like the natural background in the inset photo.
